📚 Why is Kano Maths and Literacy Accelerator (KaLMA) project a game-changer for kids in Kano State, Nigeria? Many kids leave primary school without basic maths and literacy skills. To tackle this, the Kano State government teamed up with the British Council and Teaching at the Right Level Africa to revolutionise teaching methods. What happened next? 📝 KaLMA reached 181 schools, benefitting over 37,000 pupils and 1,200 teachers. 📝 In 2021, the number of students with foundational skills in Hausa and maths grew by 18%, and in English by 11%. 📝 KaLMA’s impact on lower-level skills saw remarkable improvements: 37% in Hausa, 36% in maths, and 39% in English. A curriculum that is derived from Africa and centered on African. This curriculum can only be designed and implemented by Africans because we understand how "the shoes pains."
