Mosepele Foundation is a Youth-led Youth-focused human rights and social accountability organisation advocating for inclusion and representation of young people in key decision-making platforms.
We are at 70% registration🤞 We have reached a point in life where we prioritize youth in their diversity. We have walked a mile in the tight shoes of young people. We are not lazy. We need jobs but today we have resorted to Businesses with clear intention of addressing socio economic gaps in our communities. With Mosepele Foundation Yourh Business Expo 2024, we are very intentional of supporting youth who already started businesses but they need expansion and sustainability. We are not all going to cry to the Government for support but if young people can understand the role of Civil Society Organizations in empowering and impacting thier lives they will go extra mile in improving their initiatives. Civil Society Organizations have more power to shape the future of young people if they give them chance🤞 #youthbusinessexpo2024 #funding4youthbusinesses #nothingfortheyouthwithoutyouth

In 2023 we awarded a seed grant to Ecopracticas for "New Voices, New Horizons", a groundbreaking project aimed at amplifying fresh narratives surrounding our collective carbon footprint and its implications for the future, particularly through the eyes of youth. This initiative is not just about raising awareness; it's about empowering young voices to shape the discourse and drive action towards a more sustainable world. "New Voices, New Horizons" serves as a catalyst for change, bringing together a team of passionate professionals with diverse backgrounds in sustainable development, journalism, sociology, education, and business. At the heart of this project is a commitment to collaboration, transdisciplinary thinking, and intergenerational dialogue. Drawing from their experiences in advocacy and education through the EcoPrácticas Foundation, the team is dedicated to fostering innovative approaches that resonate with younger generations. Thanks to support from a TPP grant, "New Voices, New Horizons" has launched a dynamic media platform, providing a space for young leaders to showcase their initiatives and ideas for sustainable development. Additionally, they have revitalized a 12-year-old educational campaign, focusing on community-based projects led by youth. Through this initiative, Ecopracticas is not only amplifying the voices of the next generation but also inspiring action and driving meaningful change towards a more sustainable future for all. Writer, community outreach manager and housing stability expert. I use lived experience, academic experience and professional experience to inspire and create action in housing instability interventions.
Part of empowering youth voice does not mean we are just handing the microphone to youth…. There are many other pieces. When you truly empower youth voice you help youth gain skills, training and a means to live. As without these tools and a safe place to sustain and grow the youth voice will not sustain and grow. Without sustainablity we are not empowering youth we are just using youth. As a former youth who spoke about my lived experience I felt this deeply. That the opportunity for me to speak about it was great. But the opportunity to be paid, to have actual place of influence and not live on the street by sharing these experiences was not there. It is difficult to advocate while not having the means to stay safe. And if we are asking youth to consult then just as we would pay a premium for a consultation agency we should pay a premium for youth voice. So to empower youth it means we have to make sure that youth have access to gainful employment and are paid well for their time, expertise and efforts to advance youth empowerment and policy. I have seen many “youth boards” but are simply older stakeholders with good intentions. A true youth board is one chaired by youth and mentored by agencies and adults to help the youth lead the cause with their voices and actions. A group that then empowers these youth to have a roof over their head and the means to reach for the “American dream” of choice. As the founder of a start up it is youth voice and the struggles that youth overcome that inspire me. In my own life I experienced many barriers to sharing my voice as a youth. I experienced push back in support for biz. It was a lot of “tell your story for us” but when it was time to make a difference and build something the room cleared. So let’s work together and make youth voice and empowerment the thing to strive for. Whether it be adding youth to boards, finding creative ways to fund youth empowerment projects ran by the youth themselves or just spreading the world of youth empowerment. Together #summer2024 will be the summer of youth empowerment. #letsconnect #networking #clothingtoinspire #youthempowerment #nonprofits #mentalhealthawareness #careergrowth #education #boardofeducation

Canadian Ashoka Fellows: Who would I have dinner with and why? Meet Ernest Jr. Edmond. Ernest is the founder of Les Ballons Intensifs (LBI), a socially innovative organization that focuses on providing underprivileged youth the guidance necessary to be engaged community members. LBI is an innovative organization because it provides high quality sports coaching and programs in return for community participation in social initiatives. LBI also works closely with the parents of the children. A main goal of the organization is to take back power in parent committees and youth boards, that are typically dominated by more privileged communities. Involving parents of LBI children in these issues results in more advocacy for those who need it. I would like to have dinner with Ernest because of the way I connected with sports in my youth, and how much guidance that gave me growing up. Because of this connection, I can appreciate how powerful his movement can be. Introducing sports to a child that doesn't have much can change everything. I would likely ask Ernest what his relationship was with sports as a child. Growing up in Haiti before moving to Montreal, I imagine he experienced sports in a very different way than I did. I also connect with Ernest's story because of the connection to his family. LBI started because Ernest wanted to help his cousin Jimmy get better at basketball. From basketball lessons with Jimmy sprouted an initiative to further improve the community, which created a ripple effect of innovation. In conversation with Ernest, I would discuss how one good sentiment (taking care of a family member) directly leads to further social progress, and how creating a culture of kindness as such can be innovation in of itself.

#Youth | Young people have varied motivations at different stages of their lives. These are ever changing and dynamic depending on their socio-economic conditions, geography, age, and peers. When Reap Benefit was started in 2013, their hypothesis was that young people are aware of their community problems, but they might not be able to perceive how to translate their knowledge into solutions. How can they take consistent action in their community to make short-term and long-term impact? Keeping this in mind, they started cultivating Solve Ninja Communities with the aim of encouraging young people in the age group of 12–18 years to solve hyperlocal climate and civic issues. While running these communities, they learned through trial and error that keeping young people engaged and motivated means keeping up with their changing needs. Read this article by Kuldeep Dantewadia and Navneet Kaur to learn how nonprofits can be cognizant of these needs and meaningfully engage with the youth. https://lnkd.in/dJzdXiEE *This is the first article in a 5-part series supported by the Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies. This series is focused on how nonprofits can continue to stay relevant to the youth communities they serve and improve their youth-centric programmes by learning from organisation perspectives as well as the lived realities of young people themselves.
