Imagine you are the manager of a luxury hotel. You receive an attractive offer to install automatic doors at the front entrance. So, why keep the doorman? You can save some money by firing him. Seems rational, right? Things don't go well for the hotel after firing the doorman. Demand falls, and good reviews are down. What went wrong? Months later, someone tells you that doormen not only open doors. They greet guests upon arrival, help them with luggage, close their taxi's door, and point them to places. A good doorman gives the human touch and is the first impression of the hotel for a client: "Welcome back to the Carlton Ritz, Mister Diaz! It's great to see you again." Why do we often implement seemingly reasonable strategies without thinking much about their intangible costs and unintended consequences? Check out the Doorman Fallacy. #behavioraleconomics #biases #behavioralscience #comportamiento #criticalthinking #pensamientocritico #decisions #decisiones

🔮 How Superstition Shapes Industries Today, while delving into the intricacies of day-to-day operations with a restaurant manager, something caught my attention: the absence of the number 13 while he counted the tables around us. Turns out, it's not a mistake but a global superstition deeply ingrained in hospitality. 🍽️ Did you know? Guests often feel uneasy about the number 13, leading to its exclusion from buildings and hotels worldwide. The "missing-13th-floor phenomenon" is a testament to the power of superstition. Ever noticed the 12B or 14A buttons on elevator panels? 🏙️🤔 It's fascinating how beliefs shape our physical world. But I wonder, what other superstitions have quietly influenced industries?
