This was my 5th year being a voting member of Philadelphia Film Critics Circle. Every year we communicate via Discord with each other prior to nominating films – discussing stuff we saw outside of the ones being put up for awards season, which we all see via screenings and screeners. We encourage one another to see personal favorites. My big ones were the two docs I saw during BlackStar Film Festivall: INVISIBLE BEAUTY & THE SPACE RACE. Another fav I saw during Sundance from Mexico, that I don’t believe got distribution: RADICAL. And a small indie called SHARE? sent to me by a PR Agent I’d never dealt with before. But ultimately, either you can’t get enough of the other PFCC members to see your picks; or it’s difficult to get the screeners within our time frame; or not enough members are as enamored with your film choices to make a quorum. This is why it typically comes down to the same 5 – 8 movies that every other Critics Association winds up voting on; but this year was a real sweep by both OPPENHEIMER & Our Best Picture Winner POOR THINGS– review will be posted in my personal Top 20 Movies of 2023 List. 🐶 Last year we decided to "eat our own dog food" and see what it was like to make a short film using our products.... 🤔 Why did we do it? Combined with the hundreds of hours we spend on set with clients, this gave us the best possible insight into how technology is being used in #virtualproduction. The learnings of which you will see being rolled out in current and future releases. 🗒 What did we learn? - VP can be complex, and new, but produces an aesthetic unlock like no other. - When used right with good planning, the time savings are immense. We managed all of this with a very small budget. - More is needed in terms of usability, flexibility, scalability and training to accelerate adoption by shows and studios, and at disguise we're now ahead of making that possible. 👩🎓 The best part? Those assets and environments now form the basis of our VP Accelerator, so now all of our #acceleratorprogram cohorts can make a short film like ours, in just 5 days. 😲 What we didn't expect... We have over 10 official selections at film festivals, plus a finalist spot! Congrats to Addy G. and team for this mammoth effort. #JonTheHashtagGuy spent a little time with the Director after wrapping ADR for #BatJon on #BatmanMortality and we spoke about the next steps. I know a lot of you are keen to know more so here goes: 1. Batman Mortality has now wrapped and save for a couple of touches (the ADR going in) it's ready, I have watched it twice myself. 2. Given time constraints (15Mins) the Project has been cut to under 10Mins but the key beats of the story are intact. 3. We, well the Director, will be finalising the Cut and submitting to the School no later than next Friday (15/09). 4. It will be available for viewing on several platforms such as Vimeo and YouTube, with a 4K release coming later. 5. The Project was shot by Professionals and several of the Crew are working Actors or otherwise engaged in the Industry. 6. That IS me in the #Batsuit that I built during Lockdown and it was upgraded specifically for this Movie. 7. There will be a Public Preview Screening at the Hyde Park Picture House and seating will be extremely limited. 8. The Project is being submitted to Student Film Festivals and it is likely there will be some Promotion of this. 9. We have ideas for a longer (40Min) Cut, as this version was dictated by the School, and this will follow at a later Date. 10. I am Batman. This was an absolutely amazing experience and I cannot thank the Director and his (our?) Team at Leeds Met Film for making me look this cool.
