As a member of the #LGBTQ+ community and a cancer survivor, I want to flag this #PrideMonth conversation featuring Northeast Business Group on Health and National LGBT Cancer Network. Kim Thiboldeaux, the CEO of NEBGH, led a national patient-focused cancer organization for more than two decades. Her experience is on display as she and Scout from the National LGBT Cancer Network discuss our community's experience with cancer. As someone who has filled out the network's surveys, I can attest to their commitment to documenting how a cancer diagnosis disrupts a queer person's life that are not readily apparent to our allies. Of note, they talked about how employers (here's looking at you, ERGs) can create an environment that support LGBTQ employees. Here are quick takes: 1. Value the people in your organization, and recognize the value they bring with their diverse experiences. 2. Tailor content on wellness programs and insurance coverage to address the medical mistrust or specialty needs of this population. 3. Beyond the ERG, be sure to incorporate the queer expertise into your business model to ensure your company is distinguishing itself as a safe, inclusive resource for LGBTQ clients. Thanks for sharing the content, Christian Waugh. #ERG #LGBTQ #PrideMonth #Engagement #Healthcare

Your gender shouldn't impact the quality of your #CancerCare, no matter where in the world you live. Cancer is the world’s second leading cause of death, claiming nearly 10 million lives every year, but no demographic faces a higher disease and financial burden from cancer than women living in resource-limited settings in low- to middle-income countries. That is why we are financially supporting Global Focus on Cancer’s charitable work with City Cancer Challenge in their bold and ambitious new initiative “Cities Taking Action for Gender Equity in Cancer Care”, launched on the global #CGI2024 stage during #UNGA79. Spurred by the The Lancet Commission on Women and Cancer, it uses a localized approach to care to ensure the unique challenges of resource-limited communities in LMICs around the world are met with tailor-made solutions, prioritizing #GenderEquity.

Today, I want to celebrate all strong women fighting the battle of cancer, and all the women and men in Dignitana that with compassion give dignity and improved quality of life to those people. I want to celebrate all strong women breaking walls, daring to have a voice, and with courage, empathy, and humbleness move things to the better, as well as all men that embrace inclusiveness and equality. In my career, many times I have been the only woman in the board room, but I never thought about it, as I only noted different human beings with different perspectives. I have had the privilege to work for companies that have embraced equality and let everyone’s voice be heard independent of gender, age, or role. But that has been in good times. What I experienced during covid and recession and large transformations in some companies is different - if the purpose and roles of the game have been unclear, and people get insecure of their own position, I have experienced people becoming more protective, less transparent, afraid of taking risks, and tend to favor people and behavior similar to their own. In those times to handle a crisis or manage a transformation, it’s even more important to have inclusiveness. Never forget that together is always stronger, and different perspectives, learning from each other, provides stronger and more sustainable solutions. Maybe not easier, but a lot more fun and rewarding!
Today is International Women's Day. Celebrate with us as we honor the achievements large and small that women make every day around the globe. We must all strive constantly for a world of equality and inclusion. #IWD2024 #embraceequity #scalpcooling #cancer #chemo #breastcancer #cancersupport #dignicap #dignitana #SavingHairChangingLives

Gender equality is an important topic of discussion and needs to be looked at holistically within the community. There is a need to have a gender balance when it comes to opportunities in any profession, including the medical field, particularly Oncology, that has seen tremendous growth and opportunities over the years. We have come across many talented medical professionals from both genders. It is important that we consciously work towards creating a balance, talk about any position, from the junior most up to leadership levels, across departments. Would be great to hear from you all on this pertinent subject of gender equality in Oncology! #genderequality #oncology #cancercareer #medicalcareer #oncologycareer #career

#LGBTQ+ individuals likely have a greater risk of cancer and fare worse than heterosexual patients because of numerous risk factors associated with the stress of systemic #discrimination, per recent reports issued by @American Cancer Society and published by @American Association for Cancer Research. #Oncologists need training on how to provide culturally competent care – and we need more research on how to develop specific treatments. #NationalCancerPreventionMonth #healthequity #cancerresearch #gayrights #innovation https://bit.ly/3T10hUZ

If you work in the cancer space, it is essential to create a safe, welcoming environment for all individuals, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. You will interact with folks, but not everyone will disclose if they identify with the LGBTQIA+ community. Some tips to create inclusivity include avoiding assumptions, using inclusive language, recognizing health disparities, and doing your part to change the system. Where you live. Who you are. Where you come from. What you do. Who you love. These are called the social determinants of health, and they represent the many factors that may lead to inequities. They can unfairly stand between you and cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Access to life-saving #cancer diagnosis, treatment and care should be equitable for all. CGI programs spam across the following key areas: ✔️Climate resilience ⛈️🌤️ ✔️Economic inclusion 💲 ✔️Health equity ⚕️ ✔️Humanitarian response ✔️Women and Girls’ equality 👩👧 CGI was a great opportunity for GAA representatives (Antoine Gliksohn and Carol Prendergast) to raise awareness about the needs and challenges of the persons with #albinism around the world, with a particular focus on skin cancer, a leading cause of death in the albinism community in many countries of the world. Marigdalia Ramirez-Fort, M.D. is the president and chief executive officer of BioFort and co-inventor of proprietary methodologies and technologies involving the radiopharmaceutical targeting of prostate specific membrane antigen, better known as folate hydrolase-1. In this 30 minute film, Dr. Ramirez-Fort describes the Darwinistic crisis that she experienced in 2018 that led to curing her mother’s metastatic breast cancer, and to her and Migdalia Fort, M.D. creating inventions to optimize the survival of all (wo)mankind. https://lnkd.in/eSqhhyHf
