A leaf from a journey's diary - Museum cafes and restaurants Cars are not produced to consume fuel. Likewise, museums are not there to make money and yet funds are necessary and welcome by just about any museum. Some bank on ticket sales but others can be much more creative. Restaurants and cafes are yet another case in point. There is a fine line between generating revenue and selling an experience. For a start, it has to do with what the museum’s public is comfortable with and that cold be just enough to make a visit worth the ticket price. Experiences that sell consistently are of a totally different kind. They do not relate to the immediate gain but focus on the potential enrichment of the museum’s public, the unexpected, the pleasantly unusual and the impactful. Wow, I loved this project...🍗🔥 As many of us know, sometimes as an event marketer you have to 'step into' the role of graphic designer/video editor (thank you Canva). I had such a vision for this, but no idea where to even begin executing it. Teasing a panel that nods to such a viral sensation like 'Hot Ones', naturally I wanted to do it justice. A part of me was praying they would release a free version of Sora AI today, so it could do it for me 😂 However that got me thinking, can AI still help? It might not be able to generate the video, but could it at least get me off my feet with this idea? So, I put in a full editors brief into ChatGPT. The panel we were teasing, the release dates, location, style we wanted. I gave it all. I also added that we would need to make this on Canva. This AI spit out a full step by step guide, on how to execute this purely through Canva for me. It gave me a script, it gave me timings for each frame, it gave me recommendations for stock footage, sound effects. I was completely blown away. The thing is, is that though it was super helpful, it still wasn't perfect. It had allowed me to jump start this little video, but I knew we could do more. For example, I wanted the neon signage at the end, but also wanted to give it that 'flicker' like you see on the show. I asked my colleague GPT to help, and in seconds it gave me a step by step guide, on exactly where I could find that style and how I could animate every frame effectively to achieve what I wanted, as a sort of 'Canva work around'. It's actually blown my mind. But, it's also reassured me. Even with AI's new capabilities, we will always rely on people to bring their own creativity to a project. There was so much it helped me to execute, but the ideas were still my own. And I love that. AI continues to be a HOT topic, so I hope to keep the conversation going at our ELX Annual Congress this year... Can't wait to see all our members again in Las Vegas soon! 👀☀️ P.S. Adelaide Fringe 2024 was a massive season and it took herculean efforts from everyone to get through! Incredible numbers attended, just over 1 million ticket sold and 4.6 million attendances .. (if anyone has questions about the difference between those numbers please ask! It's quite simple, there's lots of ways to attend that doesn't involve a ticketed show) it was fantastic to see so many tourists come to Adelaide for Fringe 2024 - they bought huge numbers of tickets and spent big in local hotels and restaurants. in many ways a big triumph, but of course there is more to the story and one of the scariest elements is the fact that festival presentation costs have gone up by about 30% in the last year or so .. the ticket sales were up by around 4% (1,040,305) and the average ticket price remained the same around $33. So it doesn't take much to look at the sums and realise it is very tough to make it all balance. Lots of festivals have cancelled and closed down in recent months because of these rising costs in the supply chains. We are going to work harder than ever to try raise enough money to shore up the Fringe in future - Adelaide Fringe is a precious jewel of the nation and we need all the help we can get to survive this storm.
