It holds the power to help shape a brighter future for all. 📚🌍 This year, UNESCO is dedicating the day to the crucial role education and teachers play in countering hate speech. Hate of any kind has no place in our school, local and global communities. 🎓How to Improve the Qualifications of Teachers at Universities? The Belarusian education system requires extensive changes: from revising curricula to rethinking the organization of work at universities. However, teachers play a key role in the educational process. They determine how students learn and what knowledge they receive. The winner of the School of Young Reformers 2023 by Center for New Ideas wrote her debut column. It is based on experience at MSLU, but most of the ideas can be applied to Belarusian universities. What does the author suggest? 🔻Increasing teacher motivation 🔻Expanding opportunities for advanced training 🔻Changing the personnel management system 🔻Independent system for assessing the quality of teachers https://lnkd.in/dBFmTHZt

Through a well-rounded education, individuals learn to evaluate sources, cross-check information, and develop a healthy skepticism. A strong educational foundation empowers people to distinguish between reliable and dubious information, making them less susceptible to the pitfalls of misinformation. In a world inundated with information, education becomes a powerful tool in building resilient, informed, and discerning individuals who contribute to a more truth-conscious society. #un #novaprep

Delighted to share our British Council ELTRA research report which provides evidence of multilingual Francophone children in English Medium schools in Cameroon drawing on their multilingual resources to support their learning in spite of their teachers. The study points to the need for a policy change, supported through teacher education, which recognises the multilingual repertoires of learners and their value in facilitating learning. https://lnkd.in/eqMSbCys

Please see this fascinating speech recently delivered by Professor Olubayi Olubayi. In 2012, I founded Maarifa Education and eventually convinced Prof to join the executive team. We spent many years trying to reinvent education in Africa, something that he had been very focused on when I first met him, and continues to devote his life to. Maarifa’s Mission was to provide quality higher education to as many Africans as possible. It was and remains a very difficult journey on so many levels and for so many reasons. Prof’s speech can make you think about, and potentially rethink, a lot of things. You might also vehemently disagree with his ideas. But for me he is spot on. And his powerful thoughts around mathematics education (unfortunately) kind of sum up the state of African education today (minute 38). In hindsight, I may have had the completely wrong idea. Survival of the fittest is a very real notion among all living things and while it’s nice to try to save the world, and everyone in it, at the end of the day, we have to build on foundations that allow the best and the brightest to succeed wildly. Only then can the rest of humanity build on top of those foundations. Again, not an easy argument to make, and also a highly debateable notion, but I have tried alternative approaches and for the most part have not liked the outcomes. Anyway, the speech is well worth your time if you are interested in, and/or curious about, these topics, no matter where you might philosophically fall on these issues. (Jump to minute five to start)
