Won’t you play a game with me? One question … WHERE HAVE I BEEN THE LAST 22-Months? Was I ... a - Abducted by Aliens b - Beach holiday in the Bermuda Triangle c - On a Top Secret Mission d - Recovering from Long Covid e - Learning new Things f - ****************** (Redacted) Yup, you guessed it, I didn’t win Lotto to pay for a Bermuda Triangle holiday experience. To be honest, my chances of winning the Lotto would greatly improve if I actually bought a ticket! And, although it felt at times that my body was invaded by aliens, I was not abducted by any. The unfortunate and unglamorous answer to my 22-month absence from social media is that I was recovering from Long Covid. Social gatherings was replaced by social anxiety (always fun!) An exciting outing for me was a trip from the bedroom to the kitchen for a handful of vitamins! Thrilling, I know. I won’t go into details in this post about the horrors of Long Covid (I might leave that as a Halloween post), but suffice to say, there were hard days, and then there were even harder days. But let’s not dwell. Instead I wanted to discuss what I have been up to more recently. I have been nurturing ideas that I’ve had for several years, I’ve learned new things, and I am excited about what’s coming next. So, here I am! I am back. I am healing. I am different. I am pivoting! For all the days of her life, my kung fu sister Kirsty was a stellar example of embracing, savoring and living every moment to the fullest. Whether it was starting a business, switching careers, earning her black belt, jumping off bridges, or enjoying worldly adventures she really went for it and was 100% all in. In the process, she amplified the joy in her life, made new lifelong friends, and created infinite happy memories. Kirsty exemplified boldness, daring, un-stoppability, fun, kindness, sparkle, wit, a fabulous fashion sense, and a true zest for life that she passed on to her two young daughters. I felt more joy hanging out with this little guy (my 3 year old nephew) for a week than anything else I did last year. More than the ski trips. More than the conferences. More than growing the RE portfolio. Way more. So much joy from such a small person. Every thing I do today, I do because I know, one day, I want to give my own little person all the love and attention I can give. No missing sports events. No preoccupation with work. No lashing out over financial stress. Just presence. Just love. Just joy. Build your financial fortress so you can spend your time and energy on what really matters.
