Happy #TeacherAppreciationWeek! We are excited to highlight an amazing #educator each day this week. Today, we are kicking off the celebration with Maria Duque, Assistant Preschool #Teacher at our East Bay site. Maria has demonstrated our values of #Growth, #Excellence, and #Courage. She began her journey with The Primary School as a Childcare Provider, grew into her current role as an Assistant Preschool Teacher, and will take it a step further next school year as she becomes an Associate Teacher. Maria has found her voice as an educator, colleague, and #community member this year. In addition to being a collaborative team member, she took on the responsibility of organizing and hosting a community park day for current and former students. We are so proud of Maria and we cannot wait to see her continued growth!

🌟 Exciting News for Colorado's Universal Preschool Program! 🌟 More great work from Colorado in an effort to help more children get access to high-quality childcare! 👶 The proposed rule change aims to significantly expand eligibility, providing 30 hours of free, high-quality preschool to an estimated 3,000 more children next year — an 86% increase! 📚 Why is this crucial? Beyond boosting literacy and math skills, K-12 graduation rates, and secondary education opportunities, early childhood education is an investment in a brighter future. 🌐 With this expansion, more Colorado families will be able to get 15 hours of free early childhood education for their 4-year-olds, choosing from diverse providers. 💪 If approved, this new qualifying factor will empower preschool providers to serve those who need it most, ensuring every child and family in Colorado has the opportunity to thrive. #EarlyChildhoodEducation #Colorado #InclusiveEducation #EducationForAll https://lnkd.in/gm9XajF3

Summer Program Planning for Elementary Students: an interview with Ryan Scarfile, Director of Camps at Go Crazy Camp bit.ly/4b1xJRS Hannah Buzzelli contributes to our Bennett blog with an insightful conversation with a summer program expert: "this week was an exciting one in my neighborhood: the temperature peeked its head above 75 degrees for the first time in a long time, my flowers are in full bloom, and we have finally broken out our flip-flop collection! This means it’s officially time to start thinking about summer! While it’s hard to believe, the end of the school year is only a few weeks away, and it’s time to start planning for summer. Whether for childcare coverage, to prevent the academic “summer slide,” or for fun, there are a variety of reasons why families may choose different summer programs for their elementary school children. One of CCA's education legislative priorities is to address the needs of the increased number of children who will be in the preschool system following the change in the law moving the Kindergarten age cutoff date to September 1st. The new law requiring kids to be 5 by September 1 for kindergarten is going to leave families without access to early childhood education, worsening our state's early childhood crisis. Around 9,000 families are affected, and about half (4,500) of these are low-income. With the average cost of childcare at nearly $13,000 per year, Connecticut families are struggling to decide between making ends meet, securing their children's early education opportunities, or being part of the workforce. Parents and educators need the time and funding to support kids through this change.
