It need not be necessarily be scheduled as Talent Engagement Initiatives, or calendarized by HR teams alone. It is an equal responsibility of the Leaders to provide their Teams with short ‘Time-Outs’, especially when it has been a critical and tight timeline. Practicing Time-Outs: 🔔Participation in Organization Events, Fests, Cultural Townhalls 🔔Birthday Celebrations 🔔Chai Breaks at outside stalls 🔔Indoor Games that stimulate senses/reflexes 🔔Games on the Floor, along with Goodies 🔔Organizing Potlucks 🔔Team Lunch together once a week And these should be Planned & Time-Boxed, so that it does not build any pressure later on. I often say that culture begins in the basement and ends in the boardroom. And by ‘basement’ I mean wherever your employees park in the morning or enter your building. Every interaction from that point on plays a role in determining your company’s culture. It starts with a friendly ‘hello’ even for the people you don’t know, starting with the security staff and ending with your CEO. Tomorrow morning, have a look at the buttons in your lift. Whether or not it’s true, there’s a commonly-held perception in many companies that the floor you’re on shows your ‘ranking’ in the company. The numbers serve to separate people. That’s why, at King Price Insurance, we strive to maintain an organisational hierarchy that’s as flat as possible. Your desk might be on the top floor but that doesn’t mean you’re any more important than the receptionist on ground. And just because you use our boardrooms doesn’t mean that ‘basement etiquette’ doesn’t apply to you.
