In just over 2 weeks time, on Saturday 6th April, thousands of men will take to the streets of Plymouth for the 2024 Men's Day Out to raise funds for the amazing St Luke's Hospice Plymouth. We are incredibly proud to support this event every year - not only raising vital funds to support families in our local area, but also as a day that champions men's mental health. This year marks the 10th anniversary of Men's Day Out - a huge achievement for the entire team at St Luke's and also a brilliant testament to the comradery and sense of community that the event delivers every year. You can find out more about the event here - https://lnkd.in/gsr4NkT Maybe we'll see you there on the day for a well earned pasty and pint! #localhero #community #fundraising #plymouth #devon #makeadifference

Armed with a deep understanding of resilience and a sprinkle of humor, I’m on a mission to bring compassion and bereavement support into workplaces, schools, and organizations. Associated with SP Bespoke wellbeing
Workplace Bereavement one phrase keeps coming up: “You’re a fresh approach to bereavement support.” Hearing this from charities and businesses that have been supporting bereaved people for over forty years is not only humbling but incredibly empowering. It’s a reminder that while bereavement has always been a part of life, the way we address it must evolve. Bringing new energy, ideas, and systems into this space is exactly what we aim to do—because support should never be static. We’re here to do things differently. Grief is not something that should be approached with outdated methods or one-off solutions. Our mission is to break the silence on grief, to bring systems and frameworks that genuinely support people on their toughest journey and to ensure that no one faces loss alone—whether in workplaces, schools, or communities. If you’re ready to invest in your people in a way that truly matters, and you want to explore how our fresh approach can benefit your team, let’s book that call. Be the company that shows up for its people when they need it most. https://lnkd.in/eYC2enZz #freshapproach #workplaceculture #workplacebereavement #support #makingadiffrence

🧔 Movember 2024: Growing a Tash for Mental Health Awareness! 🧔 Hey everyone! This Movember, I'm growing out my tash to spark conversations around something that doesn’t always get the attention it deserves: mental health—especially within the construction, rail and sports communities. Movember is about more than just growing facial hair. It's about standing up and making some noise for men’s mental health, suicide prevention, and supporting charities like Construction Sport that work to create safe spaces for people to talk, get support, and make a change. With all the pressures in everyday life, mental health can take a hit, and it’s time we change that. How You Can Help: 1. Support the Tash – Show your support for this journey as my tash (hopefully) grows! 2. Start Conversations – Let’s talk openly about mental health in our industries and beyond. 3. Donate – If you're able, any amount is appreciated and will go directly to supporting organizations dedicated to mental health and suicide prevention. I'm proud to be part of this journey, and I hope you’ll join me in making a difference. It’s a small tash but a big statement—together, we can help others find support, understanding, and strength. Thank you all for your support, and keep an eye out for tash updates! https://lnkd.in/emgWvpCH

Career update! Sometimes a tragic life event changes a person in all the most important ways. On October 15th, 2019, I lost my older sister, Heidi, to suicide. Her death and my #grief journey have expanded my world in ways that I never could have imagined. I have greater #empathy for the human experience, less tolerance for bullshit, and more passion for living my life with purpose. Among the most important things I’ve learned since Heidi’s death is that authentic #connection through shared experiences (often the most haunting and earth-shattering) is what heals us. Due to the #stigma associated with #suicide, I have learned first-hand that #loss #survivors often face a lonely and isolated #grief journey. People will say things that break your heart all over again or say nothing at all. There is a lot of silence after a #suicide loss. Yet, in my experience, talking about those we’ve lost is what helps us really dig into the #grief and process it in a healthy way. With this in mind, I am taking a giant leap of faith in launching a new start-up called griefly. griefly will be launching an app that (like #Bumble or #Hinge) will create curated 1:1 connection between #suicide loss survivors who have experienced a similar loss. While there are other support options out there such as #grief therapy, support groups, #grief forums and more, griefly is uniquely focused on creating 1:1 connection. Users will enter information including the date of loss, who they lost, demographics, spirituality (or lack thereof), etc. and be “matched” based on those factors. Without the #stigma so often showing up as the proverbial elephant in the room, #suicide #loss #survivors can find common ground, a safe space to share openly, and non-judgmental support along their #grief journey. How can you help, you might ask? 😊 I am currently finishing up a wireframe for the app, which I’ll send out to developers for bids on a prototype. To finance the prototype, I will be launching a #Kickstarter campaign very soon and would love your support. You can also like this post, re-post this announcement, follow me (if you haven’t already), and/or share my announcement with those you know who have been directly (or indirectly) impacted by #suicide. I’m eager to connect with other #suicide #loss #survivors to learn their stories and learn about ways in which griefly can support them in their #grief journey. Cheers to new beginnings, embracing the skills and qualities that sometimes make us a square peg in a round hole, and bettering humanity in our own unique ways. #griefly #grief #suicideloss #suicidelosssurvivors #suicidebereavement #suicideawareness #suicideprevention

SUPPORTING TEACHERS: According to figures shared by our current charity of choice, Jigsaw South East, 90% of the British teachers who participated in a Child Bereavement UK 2018 survey believed schools should be better prepared for a bereavement. On average 111 children in the UK lose a parent every day. Schools staff are often among the first to know when a student’s loved one has died or is terminally ill, but a report found that 90% of teachers receive no training on coping with death, bereavement and grief (Child Bereavement UK, 2018). Furthermore, a study conducted by McManus and Paul (2019) identified that school staff report low confidence in being able to support children when someone dies. This often stems from a lack of training and resources on how to approach such topics sensitively. As a result, many grieving children may not receive the support they desperately need during one of the most vulnerable periods of their lives. To help address this, Jigsaw is taking steps to support schools within our local area. The charity runs regular Online Information Sessions and its helpline - 01342 313895 - is open to professionals, in addition to parents or carers. If you know a teacher locally, why not let them know about the resources and support offered by Jigsaw: https://lnkd.in/eBQdTh3D #jigsawsoutheast #childbereavement #teamcb #charityofchoice

Day 20: Home is where the mind heals Home is not just a physical space—it’s a feeling, a sense of belonging, and a sanctuary where we are free to be our true selves without judgment or fear. It’s the place where we feel safe, accepted, and understood. For many of us, finding that sense of home, whether within our surroundings or within ourselves, is a lifelong journey. As I return home from a week long conference trip, I feel grateful to have that home feeling at my work, with my friends and in many other places. Yet, there is something special about returning to your own private sanctuary- your own home and bed. In the context of mental well-being, having a space where we can let our guard down is essential. Whether it's a physical space, a supportive community, or a close-knit group of loved ones, the feeling of home nurtures our mental health. It gives us the strength to face the world knowing that, no matter what, we have a place of refuge to return to. As we navigate the ups and downs of life, it’s important to reflect on the importance of creating that sense of home—for ourselves and for others. It could be a physical space, or it could be the emotional safety we offer to those we care about. Just a little over a week to go! Please donate so I can reach my fundraising goal too:) https://lnkd.in/gCca6VEM

🏊♂️ Diving into Purpose: Laps for Life Campaign 🏊♂️ Hey LinkedIn community, I'm thrilled to share a personal challenge I've taken on this March - the "Laps for Life" campaign. 🌊 Why Laps for Life? March isn't just about the changing seasons; it's an opportunity to make waves of change in the realm of mental health. I've committed to swim laps throughout the month, raising awareness and funds for mental health initiatives through "Laps for Life." Every Lap Counts: Mental health is a cause close to my heart, and I believe that small actions can create significant impact. By joining this campaign, I'm not only challenging myself physically but also aiming to contribute to breaking the stigma surrounding mental health. How You Can Be a Part of the Journey: Spread the Word: Share this post and help amplify the message of mental health awareness. Let's make waves together! Donate: If you can, consider making a contribution. Every dollar goes directly to supporting mental health initiatives. [See link below]. Thank you for your support and encouragement as I dive into this challenge. Together, we can turn every lap into a step forward for mental health. #LapsForLife #MentalHealthAwareness #MakeWaves #CommunitySupport
