Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to speak with Patricia Strachan on her Radical Nurse Talk podcast, and it sparked a deep reflection on the importance of discussing mental health—especially within my cultural context. Our conversation inspired me to write this piece for New Trail magazine. In my culture, mental health issues often remain shrouded in silence. There’s a tendency to view mental illness as a weakness or something to be ashamed of. This taboo can prevent individuals from seeking the help they need, leading to a cycle of suffering that’s often overlooked. Talking about mental health is crucial in dismantling the stigma that surrounds it. By bringing these issues to light, we can foster a supportive environment where individuals feel empowered to seek help and share their stories. https://lnkd.in/gyQ8JcC5 https://lnkd.in/gU98JrEH #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #endthestigma #mentalhealth #indigenoushealth #indigenousmentalhealth #indigenouscanada

Loneliness and isolation play a major role in the high depression rates in America. "When people lack relationships, belonging, and love, they get lonely, leading to anxiety and depression. Left unchecked, loneliness can ruin someone’s life," says Evan Feinberg. Relationships are powerful. Connection is powerful. When we don't feel connections, camaraderie, and closeness to others in our lives, we can lose touch with what it even means to be a human. This drives home why I believe in the power of community. When we're in community with one another, we can better lift each other up and support one another. When addressing mental health, it's vital that people are getting the treatment and medications that they need. But many times, finding a sense of connection and community with others plays a crucial part in improving mental health outcomes. #MentalHealth #MentalHealthAwareness #Loneliness
