This week on the growing side of the business we have been marking out and assessing some of our field trials. Each year we continue to strive for perfection in our own growing enterprise and each year with the help of our contracting teams we replicate previous years trials and introduce new ones as part of our Research & Development Program. One of this year’s trials is focusing on applying two different rates of nitrogen to a low nitrogen required variety.  We have marked where the 2 different rates have been applied and we will monitor all different aspects of the crop throughout the growing season and review the data once harvested. Reducing input costs where possible is as important as ever but it cannot be at the detriment of yield which is key. In our latest survey, growers were asked to share the top issues/challenges impacting their farm business besides weather. Overall, the cost of inputs, markets & pricing, and farm labour were the top challenges identified. Farm input costs remain a top concern, but overall mentions reduced in 2024 (52%) compared to 2023 (68%).
