On 29 February, the rarest day in the year, we are marking the #RareDiseaseDay! Currently, it’s estimated that over 80,000 people in the world are living with Cystic Fibrosis, a severe single-gene disorder that affects the lung, digestive system, and other organs. While a cure for CF remains elusive, scientists and researchers have made remarkable progress in developing medications and other treatments to help ease symptoms, prevent complications and improve this quality of life for people with CF. In recognition of their groundbreaking contributions, we celebrate the achievements of two scientists, Dr Paul Negulescu and Professor Michael Welsh, who were awarded the 2022 Shaw Prize in Life Science and Medicine. Let’s stand together for awareness and support. Together, we can make a difference! #shawprize #theshawprize #shawlaureates #lifescienceandmedicine #cysticfibrosis

Explore Parkinson's disease pathogenesis in a new scientific journal article co-authored by Suruchi Bakshi , Certara's Principal Quantitative Systems Pharmacologist, alongside Govind Menon and J. Krishnan from Imperial College London. Titled "The Interaction of Core Modules as a Basis for Elucidating Network Behavior Determining Parkinson's Disease Pathogenesis," this perspective paper introduces an approach based in dynamical systems theory to understanding the disease's intricate mechanisms. Discover how the team combined key subnetwork interactions, focusing on alpha-synuclein's role in reactive oxygen species and proteasomal feedback pathways, to uncover emergent behaviors, potential treatment avenues, and broader implications for patient care and modeling strategies.
