The stadium is Republican, meaning it is not a stadium that is Republican, but it is a space that should be public for all residents/people of the country and more. - Because we don't have much public and green space downtown and we are choked with concrete, cars and dust; - because historically that area has been open to people; - because we don't preserve the spaces that bring us memories and belonging; - because the process has been extremely non-transparent, not one request for information has been answered, although communication needs to be proactive and with a little more respect; - because you cannot as a government, as a society, be transparent only when you want to be; - because it sets dangerous precedents, of which there were plenty, but not from "pro-European and democratic" governments; - because "we don't have money" is not an argument, because then we can give everything in this country and admire the architecture of other cities. When you want it, money can be found. Including from the sale of other land to build the US Embassy; - because what our foreign partners teach us is to organize participatory processes and ensure transparency, so I do what I've learned, and thanks for that. https://lnkd.in/dCTrWgA9

The architectural profession needs to be talking about this. The best urbanism professors teach us about 'res publica', 'res economica' and 'civitas': the public realm, the private realm, and the people. We need all of these to make a city. Without people, there is nothing. We as architects need to remember our code of ethics, and that the buildings we design should always be in service to people over anything else. It's an insult to the profession and the people of Palestine to be excited about what we can replace them with as their cities are actively being destroyed. #freepalestine https://lnkd.in/eUtW_hdb

If you are a Canadian writer or artist, this message is for you: Canadian arts is heavily funded by all branches of government. It's actually something Canada does exceedingly well. But all of that can change in an instant. If you care about sustaining and increasing funding to the arts, you need to message your MP. Ask them if they plan on supporting increased funding for the arts or decreased funding. Let them know they will not receive your vote if they support any kind of decrease. If you care about arts in Canada, you need to act and you need to act now. If you do not know who your MP is, simply Google "Who is the MP for (write your neighbourhood here)." Their contact is public and you can reach out to them directly. Do not leave this to chance. If you need more guidance on this, connect with the Canada Council for the Arts | Conseil des arts du Canada And no, Canada Council did not ask me to post this. I simply see the writing on the wall and want to make sure we write a different story.
