The Power of Appreciation: Why Nurses Deserve Our Everyday Thanks Nurses are the backbone of the healthcare industry, providing critical care and compassion to patients every single day. But how often do we take a moment to truly appreciate their hard work? Today, I want to highlight the importance of nurse appreciation. It's not just about a yearly celebration; it's about fostering a culture of gratitude that benefits everyone. Studies show that appreciation can lead to: Reduced nurse burnout and turnover ✅ Improved patient care through higher engagement Stronger teamwork for better-coordinated care Potentially lower patient mortality rates ❤️ Nurses are under immense pressure and a simple "thank you" can go a long way. Let's show our appreciation for these incredible individuals, every day. #NurseAppreciation #ThankANurse #HealthcareHeroes

Did you know? On average, nurses take three years to become what’s called “competent” in their practice. Unfortunately, the average bedside nurse tenure today is less than three years! As more experienced nurses leave the profession, it leaves a gap between newer and experienced nurses at the bedside - that's the "experience-complexity gap". It's so important for technology to be a part of any hospital’s recruitment and retention strategy. Clinical decision support tools can benefit less experienced nurses by: - Enabling them to see easily recognizable visual cues about a patient’s health - Empowering them to provide personalized care by customizing settings - Helping them identify worrisome and non-worrisome changes in a patient’s status - Prompting them to act when it’s relevant https://lnkd.in/g2-SjTaP #InRhythmWithYou #healthcare #attrition #talentretention

This week, May 6-12, is National Nurses Week. Celebrate by recognizing the challenges faced by nurses and the importance of supporting their wellbeing. According to a study by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, around 100,000 registered nurses left the workforce in the past two years, with another 700,000 intending to leave by 2027. The heart of the issue is chronic understaffing, coupled with feelings of being undervalued and overworked. Healthcare organizations must listen and act. Healthcare doesn't have time not to put nurses on boards! I'm amplifying this post by Angie Howell, DM, RN, BSN, MPH, NE-BC, because the message needs to be heard. Less than 1% of healthcare systems have a nurse on their board of directors. Nurses make up the majority of the healthcare workforce, but our voices stop at patient care. I found this great article by Susan Reinhard, which tells great stories about the unique insights nurses bring to the bigger healthcare delivery conversation. We think about quality indicators and patient outcomes, overnight and weekend admissions, and how to design units for ergonomics, workflow, and efficiency. Our lived experiences give us insights that those who have never provided hands-on care have. It's time for us to flip the script on the idea that nurses only provide care. We are professionals, business leaders, care experts, educators, innovators, and so much more! #nurses #nursesonlinkedin #healthcare #healthcareonlinkedin #boardofdirectors #nursing #nursinginnovation #nursinginsights #thetimeisnow https://lnkd.in/g57enBdy.
In 2024, less than 1% of healthcare systems have a nurse sitting on their board of directors (Beckers Hospital Review, 2024), yet nurses comprise 59% of the healthcare workforce (World Health Organization, 2020). Bonus fact: -900,000 nurses are expected to leave the profession by 2027 (Gruzd, 2023). The math is pretty simple. #nurse #nurseleader #healthcareleadership #moralleadership #servantleadership #transformationalleadership

While healthcare organizations should seek nurse representation on boards and provide resources to facilitate that representation, nurse leaders can also position themselves for board opportunities by seeking training on board-related topics they are/were not exposed to in their nursing leadership career tracks -- areas such as fiduciary duties, corporate governance, risk oversight, shareholder engagement, M&A, financial performance, cyber risk management, ESG, and executive compensation -- all areas within the purview of board directors (some depending on private/public/for-profit/non-profit status). NACD (National Association of Corporate Directors), PDA (Private Directors Association), and other similar organizations provide education/training/certifications to prepare individuals for service on a board. For those drawn to board service, completion of such training/certification can be a strong signal of interest and commitment to board service and the value-creating activities that ensue. https://lnkd.in/eywHiYad https://lnkd.in/efpTXAtM
