Globe Metals & Mining Limited (ASX:GBE) has taken big strides toward commercial production of #niobium and #tantalum concentrate, beginning the production of concentrate feedstock ahead of construction on its planned chlorination refinery pilot plant. In preparation, the company has completed several reagent optimisation tests focused on recovery optimisation over grade optimisation. The niobium content of the initial feedstock is lower than the overall resource grade at GBE’s Kanyika Project in Malawi, which is expected to have an average nameplate production of 3,267 tonnes per annum of niobium pentoxide and 136 tonnes of tantalum pentoxide over a 27-year life of operations. Globe Metals & Mining Limited (ASX:GBE) has received further encouraging results from test work on concentrate from the Kanyika Niobium Project in Malawi with #niobium and #tantalum extracted and separated using environmentally sustainable chlorination refining. The second part of the metallurgical results on the chlorination test work also confirm that niobium/tantalum products contain no radiation as the radioactive materials are removed in the refining process. Testing to date has also extracted and separated more than 94% of the key rare earth elements (REE) as by-products of the niobium and tantalum refining process. We have initiated coverage on Globe Metals & Mining Ltd- Niobium (ASX: GBE). Globe represents an Australian-listed, African-focused resource company. Its major project is the Kanyika Niobium Project in Malawi, where it plans to produce niobium and tantalum products for high-strength, low-alloy steel and electronic applications, including very fast charging lithium-ion batteries. The Kanyika Niobium project represents a well-studied project that Globe has worked on for over a decade. Our valuation of the company as a whole, based on assumed prices of US$42/kg niobium pentoxide and US$350/kg tantalum pentoxide, together with an exchange rate of AUD/USD 0.66, is estimated to be A$444M as at June 2024 – or A$0.657/sh before dilution. Our valuation range after estimated dilution is A$0.15/sh to A$0.362/sh. The lower end of the range assumes the raising of A$100M at 3cps, and the upper end assumes an issue at 14cps. Any funding from non equity sources would reduce dilution. 2024 is likely to be a watershed year for the project and the news flow will be considerable. A Revised Preliminary Feasibility Study with updated costings and including results of detailed design of long lead items is planned for the March 2024 quarter. Product samples are currently being sent to potential off-take partners, which could lead to the announcement of sales agreements and possibly funding support (i.e. customers providing equity, making prepayments against future sales, and/or providing debt). #niobium #commodities #resources #mining #Malawi #equities #ausbiz

Smith highlights niobium's role as a strategic metal, used for enhancing steel strength as well as in the development of new forms of lithium-ion batteries and other uses besides. Currently, the majority of niobium production comes from Brazil, but #GlobeMetals & Mining is shifting focus to a high-value #pentoxide product, which he says should command a premium in the market. Smith, who only joined the company in recent days, says he was drawn to the project's uniqueness, being potentially the first new #NiobiumMine development in 50 years. The project, already past initial feasibility, is advancing with innovative extraction methodologies, including a novel chlorination process for #NiobiumPentoxide, promising significant economic benefits. For the coming year, Smith outlines objectives including advancing the chlorination process through metallurgical test work and piloting a refinery plant. This phase aims to finalise design for capital raising and subsequent construction of the mine and refinery. Emphasising the project's benefit for Southern Africa, particularly Malawi, Smith expressed pride in partnering with the Malawian government, as mining is a relatively new sector in the country. Globe Metals & Mining Limited (ASX:GBE) has signed an offtake letter of intent (LOI) with Affilips NV for up to 32% – or around 100 tonnes – of expected annual high-purity niobium pentoxide production from Globe’s Kanyika Project. It is hoped the LOI will lead to finalising a deal, which would start in May 2026, initially for three years, when the production of Phase 1 oxide is expected to be in full swing. The letter outlines the framework for both parties to negotiate a binding offtake agreement for 32% of the Kanyika Niobium Project’s 313-tonne Phase 1 annual production. Development of the Kanyika Project is expected to position Globe as a reliable supplier of in-demand niobium oxide for specialised industries based in Europe. For its part, Affilips exports some 50,000 tonnes of master alloys a year to 80 countries.
