We are in a moment of turmoil in college athletics. Conference realignment is reshaping the NCAA, student-athletes are unionizing to become employees, and each day a new anti-trust lawsuit emerges. In this tumultuous landscape, staying informed is key. The resource I turned to most is D1.ticker, a twice-daily email that offers concise, curated updates to help you navigate this dynamic landscape effectively. https://lnkd.in/gJhc9SH8

NIL is a billion-dollar industry and financial literacy for college athletes has never been more important. For Financial Literacy Month, I wrote my first article for CNBC exploring how current college athletes, ex-professional athletes, and financial institutions are all working together to help NCAA athletes learn everything they need to know about money. Thanks to Chase Griffin, Brandon Copeland, Sandra L. Richards, and Carl Nassib for speaking with me about one of the most fascinating topics in sports right now. #nil #sportsbusiness #financialliteracymonth #cnbc
"All of the issues that pro athletes have dealt with for years are now going downstream," said former NFL player Brandon Copeland.

Another day, another college football controversy: Pac-12 vs. Mountain West – The $55M Lawsuit Shaking Up College Football: 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧: ➊ Pac-12 sues Mountain West for $55M over poaching penalties. ➋ UNLV and Air Force were allegedly offered $20M+ by the Mountain West to stay in their conference. ➌ Utah State, Boise State, San Diego State, Colorado State, and Fresno State are set to join Pac-12 in 2026. ➍ Both conferences need more members for NCAA recognition. 𝐍𝐈𝐋 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭: 🅐 New markets open up for players involved in conference realignment, offering fresh exposure. 🅑 In the Pac-12, major schools like Oregon State and Boise State create new NIL opportunities and lower-profile programs like Fresno State see rising value. 🅒 Uncertainty looms over long-term athlete-brand partnerships due to realignment and shifting regions. 🅓 NIL value fluctuates depending on the conference athletes end up playing in. Interested in the potential futures of the mess that is high-level college sports right now? This is a great read. The most powerful paragraph is at the very end, which is the hopefully the most motivating - and most concerning - to the powers that be in college athletics.

The NCAA governance model is in B1G/SEC trouble. The SEC and B1G conferences are forming a nameless joint committee to discuss issues regarding governance, NIL, and others. It’s certainly seems as if it’s simply a matter of time before the major conferences form a new alliance that will upend modern collegiate athletics. The beginning of the end for the totalitarian regime may have begun, but will this new joint venture bring sweeping changes or just a governance change in namesake only(?) Here’s the most compelling story on college athletics and its roadmap moving forward- maybe ever. #collegesports #collegeathletics #nil #governance #ncaa #sec #sportsindustry #sportsbusiness #sportsmarketing #history #ventures

So much has changed in college athletics since I was a student-athlete. It's been hard to keep up with what's going on with NIL deals and how those will factor into the future of college athletics. Luckily, Littler's Ben Pope, Ben McMichael and James Fielding provide insight into federal proposals to regulate name, image and likeness (#NIL) deals for college athletes in this article. #employmentlaw

Sadly, this is one of two articles I have read about rhabdo this week! Using qualified professionals is critical to avoid this preventable condition.
Unfortunately, these incidents continue to occur in college athletics. Details continue to emerge, but we can all recognize the importance of vetting outside consultants and having qualified professionals with the appropriate education and credentials oversee workouts. https://lnkd.in/egbthwu6

The college NIL market has gone from a market run by shady mobsters to a market run by wild west gunslingers. Putting aside the pay to play debate, which is clearly and obviously what is happening despite what any rules say, IMHO the market as it stands does not serve the long term interests of all athletes and will only serve to further polarize the economics of NIL monetization.... #ncaa #nameimagelikeness https://lnkd.in/esCtXXaX
