It was so unexpected and wonderful to meet a colleague from many years ago on this morning's walk. They told me that my leadership, specifically for placing colearning as a focus for teams in health promotion, was pivotal to their practice 🙏. We learned together about 'community capacity building' (at personal, professional, organization, and community levels) and lamented that these roles in the public health sector appear to be gone. Why? This was very poignant because I've been thinking a lot about how the old seems to be swept under the rug. I reread these documents (from 24 years ago) and I'm thinking about writing about 'what was then' and 'what is now' re: the practice of community based health promotion. What to you think? More national recognition for the communications work of the Wisconsin Department of Health Services! Our Resilient Wisconsin: Help the Helper video training has been recognized by the National Association of Government Communicators (NAGC) with a second place award (educational/informational video category) in the 2024 Blue Pencil and Gold Screen Awards. When people dedicate their life to the care and support of others, it’s easy for them to sacrifice their own health and well-being. But there is help for the helpers. This 38-minute video provides helpers information on a variety of topics that all lead to one goal: Building resilience so that helpers in any role (parents, caregivers, social workers, teachers, etc.) can lead a healthier, happy life. More than 1,800 people have watched this video since it was published in April 2023. This video was produced in collaboration with KW2. Watch it here: https://lnkd.in/gNqaDCEr We don't do this work for the awards. We are humbled and honored to be among the municipal, county, state, and federal government agencies recognized with a NAGC BPGS award this year. #NAGC #BPGS #2024BPGS #BPGS2024 #Awards #Recognition #ResilientWisconsin

access ➡ understand ➡ appraise ➡ apply that's what you want people to do with information that's important to their health That's something I got from an excellent and generous webinar yesterday by Gill Rowlands, Professor of General Practice at Newcastle University, and a GP. Her main research interests are health literacy and the development of evidence-based policy to support health literacy improvements. Gill has been working with WHO colleagues in Europe on the development of a new tool to measure organisational health literacy. It was another Patient Information Forum (PIF) webinar that was well worth the time. A recording will be available to #PIF members - you will learn something. Though the title was Measuring organisational health literacy, Gill made the basics of health literacy very clear, and explained how it can be promoted in a range of situations. For me, there was interesting crossover into the world of access assessment (wayfinding signage - Ian Streets 😉 ) - can the two help each other ? (And lovely to see a familiar face in Julia Bell!) #HealthLiteracy #HealthInequalities #PIF #DigitalLiteracy

Growing cultures of connection & belonging amidst epidemic levels of loneliness and social isolation for diverse social engagement program participants & by linking arms with passionate change-makers doing the same.
ICYMI: Open invitation to Colorado organizations - 1) find your location using this link, register, and join us, and 2) forward to your respective partners and invite them to join us! Risa Hayes and I are pleased to be bringing (no cost) Colorado Community Capacity Building workshops to you, starting this week! Through the progressive CO Hospital Transformation Program (HTP), CO hospitals are engaging with their wider communities for Community Health Neighborhood Engagement (CHNE). When we all wrap our arms around the hospitals for the health of our respective local family, friends, and neighbors, we are BEST TOGETHER! Why these workshops? To bring as many local community partners together to connect and strategize – even to better understand what services and/or resources each partner can offer that are not well known. We will be facilitating collaborative, strategic brainstorming activities between hospitals, community-based organizations, health alliances, coalitions, regional health connectors, social needs services, and other partners in your community to explore opportunities and approaches to collectively address challenges facing the health of our communities, share best practices, and build community capacity. While the tools and practices we’ll use are an important part of the workshop, the real benefit is in using these tools in collaboration with your partners. NOTE to hospitals: Due to the interactive nature of these workshops that are designed to bring hospital teams and community partners together, participating HTP hospitals can count this workshop as a Community Advisory Meeting for the purposes of Community and Health Neighborhood Engagement (CHNE) reporting for PY3Q3 (April-June 2024). Matt Haynes MPP, MA Kami Tam Sing, MPM, PMP, CPIS We look forward to seeing you there!
