One of the purposes of the NALP #annualeducationconference is to reconnect with others in the industry, especially for those of us in it for a long time. Last week, it was great to catch up with people who I have grown up with in the profession, who have been instrumental in my own career development, (looking at you, Debby, Michele, Emily, Victor, Yujin, Kathren, Carryn). And, then to be sitting next to Carryn at the Flo Recruit dinner! Carryn and I are part of each other’s law firm “origin stories” and it was fun to relive and share how we were trained in that bygone era, from use of significant digits in GPA calculations, the order the doucments appeared in the callback file, printing callback documents on the appropriate colored paper, the correct *full* names of law schools on the appropriately colored file labels, callback reports, FedEx’ing candidate files to Chicago prior to the 5:00 p.m. cutoff, arraning seating charts for recruiting dinners, etc. And, to top the week off, I get to see my oversized headshot at the business meeting, when I was recognized with Clara Solomon and Donna Gerson by our peers at NALP, for doing “work,” that I don’t really consider work. It is so fulfilling when I can connect people and, more importantly, advance other careers. Thr Effect of Rheum ribes Root (Rhubarb) on Menopausal Hot Flashes: A Randomized Double-Blind, Study-Iran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran. Abstract Background and objectives: Hot flashes are one of the most predominant complaints of menopause among women. The main treatment is hormone replacement therapy, which has side effects. Therefore, the use of plants with phytoestrogen has been suggested as an adjunctive treatment. This study aimed to estimate the efficacy of processed rhubarb (Rheum ribes L.) on hot flashes in postmenopausal women. Methods: This double-blind placebo-controlled trial was performed on postmenopausal women who were referred to public health centers at Iran University of Medical Sciences. Ninety postmenopausal women aged over 45 years with menopausal hot flashes were randomly assigned to two groups. The treatment group received 500 mg of encapsulated processed R. ribes twice a day for eight weeks, and the control group received placebo (starch powder) in the same manner. Data were collected using Blatt–Kupperman index at the start of the study, fourth and eighth weeks after the intervention. Descriptive and analytic statistics were used to analyze the data. Results: A total of 74 patients completed the study (39 participants in the intervention group and 35 in the control group). The results showed that R. ribes significantly decreased the mean of flashing in Blatt–Kupperman index four and eight weeks post-intervention (p<0.001). Rheum ribes showed no serious adverse effects. Conclusion: The findings of this study propose that treatment with R. ribes may be considered an adjunctive treatment for hot flashes in postmenopausal women.

Being very British I always find it hard to talk about things I’ve done but Rely just reposted this chat I had with Nathan Luker about integrity in sport and post Olympics and pre Paralympics I think it remains relevant and hopefully interesting. I was lucky enough to work in Australia and see first hand a world first model in Sport Integrity Australia’s establishment of the National Integrity Framework - combined with incredible community education and campaigns via Play by the Rules such as Let Kids be Kids and Start to Talk (now led by the awesome Tom Dixon). There’s so much to learn and share about how to set expectations around conduct and triage unacceptable conduct (and even criminal conduct) to the right place to set the right tone and culture in any organisation. If you have time take a look at both these models - I think there’s so much we can learn from international cooperation in this space.
