"All issues are disability rights issues" is a mantra that runs through the veins of our company. Common sense gun laws are well overdue and it breaks my heart knowing tiny children are being conditioned to equate a whistle blowing with the need to duck and cover to avoid being shot. I wish we didn't need active shooter preparedness plans, but because of the mass shooting epidemic, we do. But do you know who doesn't have an active shooter preparedness plan? 70% of students with IEPs. Gun Violence is a Disability Justice issue. If you're feeling overwhelmed today and want to use your power and privilege to make sure ALL students are safe in schools, we created some helpful resources to do just that. Share this with your community, and click the link for scripts to send to both your school board and administrators AND legislators. #DisabilityJustice #DisabilityRights

Disability Pride Month is a time to celebrate and a time shed light on the oppression faced by this community. This way we may continue to fill in the gaps existing in services and care to those facing barriers. Without shedding light, we cannot prevent. Victims and sexual violence of sexual violence exist within all populations. However, some communities are impacted more than others. The people within the Disability community are put in a position where they have to rely on the help of others at times. This puts them in a vulnerable position in the face of emotional and physical violence. By advocating to increase independence and providing assistance as people with disabilities see fit, we may start to see the change people with disabilities deserve. If you know anyone who's a victim or survivor of sexual violence, remember to check in and reassure them it's not their fault. Hotline Number: 1-877-733-2273 FSL provides free counseling to all survivors of sexual violence. • • • #DisabilityPrideMonth #DisabilityPride #Oppression #Diosability #Accessibility #Discrimination #Determination #SelfCare #Advocacy #Empowerment #Validation #SexualViolence #SexualAssault #PTSD #FSL #SAVEOfEssex #EssexCounty #NJ

School districts should work to remove barriers facing justice-impacted youth with disabilities, not create new roadblocks. On May 14, 2024, Disability Rights NJ filed a complaint with the New Jersey Department of Education’s Office of Special Education alleging that Trenton Public Schools systemically denies education to students with disabilities returning from out-of-home placements, especially youth impacted by the justice system. We call on the New Jersey Department of Education to rapidly develop, implement, and enforce transparent corrective action that ensures timely re-enrollment and education of students returning to Trenton Public Schools from juvenile detention centers and other out-of-home placements. https://lnkd.in/eh6DNS6r Disability Rights NJ thanks the National Center for Youth Law for its invaluable assistance investigating and developing this complaint. #DisabilityRights #JuvenileJustice #YouthLaw #Complaint #investigation #SpecialEducation #barriers #SystemicAction #NewJersey #Trenton #ReEnrollment

Privilege absolutely exists within the disability community and there are absolutely disabled people of privilege. How does privilege show up? - Only inviting white disabled people to speak at conferences, on panels, and at events. - Setting the attendance fee at disability conferences and events extortionately high. - Refusing to take up an intersectional approach to advocacy. - Lack of accessibility to diagnoses for disabled people of colour. - Invalidation and dismissal of the experiences of global majority members. - The lack of representation in pop culture and media of disabled global majority members. - Erasure of the existence of global majority members through the failure to amplify their voices and provide a platform for them to share their stories. - Failure to hold disabled racists accountable and/or excusing racist behaviour or words by members of the disability community. - The partial or full denial that privilege exists within the disabled community. Each of these actions directly hurt disabled people of colour by showing that some disabled people are more equal than others. Disability advocacy should be about the full inclusion of ALL disabled people, including multiply marginalised individuals. #autism #adhd #neurodiversity #education #employment #disability #advocacy #inclusion #dei #intersectionality #communication #stigma #bias #ableism #culture #accommodations #pride #hr #discrimination #systems #accessibility #privilege

Disability rights are Human Rights! Why do we have to Advocate (fight ) harder for our rights? Why are our rights the first to come under fire? We need to be visible! We need to use our voices! Have you forgotten about SSI and SSDI? We still can’t marry the person that we love without losing our very much needed Social Security and Healthcare benefits. We are capable! We have goals! Our lives are on hold because unity and solving problems has become a thing of the past. When Disabled people work together we create waves, an impact. We need to make those waves! We need our impact to be felt. “Don’t you forget about us” #DisabilityRightsAreHumanRights #TheArcOfTheUnitedStates #SpecialOlympics #Healthcare #SSI #SSDI #EndDisabilityMarriagePolicy #Education #Capability #Unity
