Why is floating wind such an important part of the #energytransition? Put simply – winds are stronger and more consistent in the deeper waters at sea, meaning floating offshore wind sites can generate more power. Close to 80% of the world’s offshore wind resource is in deep water and advancing floating offshore wind allows developers to select the best sites. Pentland will act as a blueprint for the future of floating wind and learnings from the project will help to advance the technology globally. 🤔 Did you know that the average cable length per wind farm has increased from 30 km in the 2000s to 80 km in the late 2010s and is projected to exceed 100 km? The longer the required cable, the greater the carousel and vessel capacity needed. ▪️ ◾ ⬛ Moreover, as turbines get bigger, the cable’s diameter and weight also increase, tripling the impact. Explore why we believe the 𝘜𝘓𝘚𝘛𝘌𝘐𝘕 𝘚𝘟238 is perfectly equipped to handle these increasing demands, ensuring efficient and reliable cable-laying for the future of offshore wind farms. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e8knww2k #maritimeindustry #offshoreenergy #navalarchitecture #turningvisionsintoreality

➡️The latest paper from our group explores 𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 in the context of land conflict, economic costs and environmental impact. 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱: The German government has dedicated 2% of land for onshore wind and aims for a relatively 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 among the different federal states of Germany. This distribution could lead to land-use inefficiencies, as North Germany has more favourable wind conditions. The study evaluates three different onshore wind distribution scenarios and their effect with several criteria. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀: The impact of onshore wind power distribution on the energy system is moderate, if system-friendly flexibilities are allocated.
