Breastfeeding is an essential part of the health of a newborn baby and the mother, per the World Health Organization. However, countless working women in Brazil—and globally—are struggling to meet their children’s health needs without adequate paid time off from their jobs during the early stages of childbirth. These disparities are even worse for Black women in Brazil, who face extra socioeconomic and racial barriers. For Alma Preta Journalism, Report for the World corps member Jean Albuquerque explores the racial disparities behind breastfeeding in Brazil, speaking with health experts and advocates who say government policies of extending maternity leave and minimum income can help ensure every mother gets time for their child’s health needs: https://lnkd.in/ecx8t3Aq 🗞 Sign up for more local news stories: https://bit.ly/3Qo4jpk #Brazil #healthcare #maternityleave #globalnews

💡Did you know 1 in 10 babies in the UK may be born with a restrictive membrane under their tongue? This condition, known as tongue tie, can make feeding difficult for some infants. As a member of the Association of Tongue Tie Practitioners, I’ve seen how early intervention can make a difference. While not all cases need treatment, babies with significantly reduced tongue function can benefit from a simple procedure to release the restriction. Why Seek Help? ➡️ Breastfeeding: Early intervention can improve a baby's ability to latch and feed effectively. ➡️ Oral Development: Addressing tongue tie can prevent future speech and dental issues. ➡️ Parental Relief: Proper support can alleviate the stress of feeding difficulties. If you're concerned about tongue tie in your newborn, seek advice from local qualified practitioners. Early support makes a big difference! Any questions? Feel free to reach out, I’m happy to help. #tonguetie #newborncare #parenting #feedingchallenges #sealthsupport [Tongue tie data: ATF]

Breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to ensure infant health and yet less than half of infants under 6 months old are exclusively breastfed. There are many reasons for this: from lack of knowledge and cultural norms to logistical issues and insufficient support, the barriers are different for every woman. For over 60 years, we have worked to improve family health and eliminate barriers to breastfeeding. Through partnerships with governments, civil society and frontline health workers, we help strengthen health systems that improve the accessibility, quality and equity of care. We also champion family adoption of positive health practices like kangaroo mother care and train and mentor community health workers to educate parents on the basics of lactation. #WorldBreastfeedingWeek

Let's Support Breastfeeding-Friendly Spaces! Creating an inclusive environment requires a systemic overhaul. It's not just about having a lactation room; it's about fostering a culture that supports and empowers breastfeeding mothers. Let's break it down: -Policy and Procedure Development: Flexible break times and supportive policies are crucial are essential building blocks at workplaces. -Physical Environment: Dedicated lactation rooms, accessible facilities, and a workplace designed with breastfeeding mothers in mind are crucial. -Supportive Culture: Strong leadership commitment, education, and training for all employees, support networks, and a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination are vital. -Public Spaces: Designating comfortable, private areas in public spaces like malls, airports, and parks makes breastfeeding easier and less stressful. At a recent customer's townhall meeting, Heyva Health shared a slide of a covered breastfeeding woman. Surprisingly, there were laughs and giggles from male colleagues, causing an uproar. Ironically, most of these men actually have wives and children back home. It got us thinking - childbirth, motherhood, breastfeeding and menopause are natural parts of the reproductive journey. Why isn't it normalized in many workplaces in SEA? Imagine a workplace where these aspects of life are seen as perfectly normal and supported. When normalizing such experiences, women can feel confident in both their biological and professional roles. It creates an environment where women and families feel safe to grow, thrive, and bring their best selves to work. Any thoughts? How can we reshape our company culture to support and embrace these essential aspects of life for all employees? #ilovewhatido #movingtheneedle #deistrategy

Hello LinkedIn community! 🌟 We are Nataly, an innovative start-up focused on making birth safer for women worldwide. Our goal is to create an affordable product to tackle one of the leading causes of maternal deaths: postpartum hemorrhage (PPH). We want our solution to be accessible in hospitals, both large and small, to help as many women as possible. At Nataly, we believe no woman should die during childbirth. Currently, there are no affordable and effective methods for detecting PPH before it becomes a severe problem. Once a mother leaves close care in the OR, only visual estimation methods are used to monitor her, which are often inaccurate and ineffective. That's why we're working hard to develop a solution that can accurately track and document a woman's recovery, ensuring a safer postpartum period. Join us on this exciting journey and follow our progress. Together, we can make a difference. 🌸 #HealthcareInnovation #MaternalHealth #PPH #NatalyStartup

Did you know that babies communicate non-verbally too? 👶 Infants use engagement cues to express their desire to interact, play, or feed. From open eyes to attentive gazes and heartwarming smiles, they let us know they're ready for interaction. But they also have disengagement cues, signaling when they need a change. Whether it's turning away, crying, or showing signs of fatigue, they communicate their needs clearly. For newborns, feeding cues are particularly important. From clenched fingers to sucking motions, they tell us when they're hungry and ready to feed. Neglecting these cues can impede the baby's growth and lead to less joyful breastfeeding experiences. Let's tune in and honor these non-verbal signals for healthier, happier babies! 💬 Book a Call: https://lnkd.in/d6am52jn #LactationConsultant #PostpartumCare #InfantNutrition #MaternalHealth #WomensHealth
