We welcome the news that the Convention of the North 2025 is set to be hosted in Lancashire — the location of one of our four offices and where many of our clients are based. Held at the University of Central Lancashire on the 27 and 28 February 2025, it provides a real opportunity to highlight the strength of the existing and upcoming sectors across the region and help shape the new Government’s commitment to greater devolved powers. It will bring together business, community, academic and political leaders to discuss how they can address the pressing challenges and opportunities facing the North of England. The event is another opportunity for the region to be relentless in pursuing real change across the North and drive forward the UK economy. It’s that desire which led us to establish True North. Now a network of over 250 purpose-led organisations, this has already developed meaningful partnerships and reinforced a culture of collaboration amongst its members. The data partnership with Open Innovations has already started to yield a better understanding of where the greatest opportunities lie for the region’s prosperity: https://lnkd.in/eynSUnVh If you’re a purpose-driven organisation and would like to add your voice to co-create a path forward with a view to unlocking the true potential of the Northern economy, then sign-up here: https://lnkd.in/edQb9Ws3
We're excited to announce that Convention of the North is coming to Lancashire in 2025! And we are off! Delighted to kick off our Innovation Growth Lab by NESTA project entitled Making Academics Knowledge Exchange Ready (MAKERs) at Ulster University with colleagues at Ulster University Business School. This exciting project is in partnership with colleagues Northumbria University and The Manchester Metropolitan University. MAKERs os specifically part of the University-Industry Impact Accelerator where we have been invovled in developing a proof of concept study to grow knowledge exchange within Higher Education Institutions. This pilot involves an experimental design where we expose academics to knowledge exchange training and then a control group to bid writing training to examine the effect of training on aspirations, intentions, motivations and actions to undertake knowledge exchange. The feedback from the two workshops on 10th April at Ulster University Belfast was phenomenal. Unanimously the academics participating agreed on the value of the training and the need for KE training. The training was seen to nurture confidence in staff to do knowledge exchange and also, for those with less experience in this field, to open their mind to what knowledge and skills they can bundle an offer for businesses seeking knowledge exchange. The purpose of this pilot across the 3 institutions and two nations in the UK is to validate the need for such training. Indeed, so far the pilot has shown without exception, that the call is now upon us as a team to build this training and knowledge exchange interventions to deliver real impact to higher education institutions and businesses. 🏫 Currently, almost two-thirds of 16-year-olds in Greater Manchester do not pursue or achieve an English Baccalaureate (EBacc). To give young people in our city-region a clear, alternative pathway, we’re proposing a Manchester Baccalaureate (Mbacc) that guides students toward subjects that will maximise their chances of employment in our regional economy in sectors like engineering, digital and construction. Still deciding which university is right for you? Attending an open day is the perfect opportunity to help confirm your choice! Here are our top 5 reasons why attending a university #openday this summer is a good idea ✨👇 💭 1. Squash any doubts and have niggling questions answered: you'll be more confident in your decision, knowing that the university you've chosen is the one for you! 📍 2. Tour the campus: join a campus tour and see what facilities will be on offer. 📢 3. Talk to lecturers: this will help you learn more about the course you'll be taking, understand their teaching styles, and discover what modules will be available to you. 🤝 4. Meet the current student cohort: as well as lecturers and university staff, current students are also present at open days. They can tell you what it's really like to study at the uni, some come prepped with some questions. 🌼 5. Explore the local area: see what's around. You could be spending a lot of time there in the future, so get to know the surroundings - local libaries, cafes, restaurants and nightclubs might be of interest! 💃 If you'd like to do all of this at a Birkbeck Open Day, join us on 17th August from 11am-3pm. We'd love to meet you and help you decide if Birkbeck is the place for you 👋 Sign up here: https://ow.ly/BV1w50SMlrl #CampusTour #StudentLife #HigherEducation

Yesterday in Washington, DC, CAAHEP President Donald Balasa, JD, MBA, delivered an enlightening session on "Beyond Gainful Employment: Other Title IV Rule Revisions that Impact Quality and Eligibility" at the prestigious CHEA/CIQG Annual Conference. The landscape of higher education and the implications of Title IV of the Higher Education Act (HEA) are evolving, and Balasa's talk shed light on crucial changes every professional program must be aware of. Key takeaways include: -Ensuring graduates are eligible for mandatory state licensing/certification exams. -Avoiding the inclusion of courses that are unnecessary for meeting state licensing/certification requirements. For students to benefit from Title IV assistance, these stipulations underscore the dual necessity for compliance and quality in the curriculum of our professional programs. This conversation is vital for maintaining the integrity of our educational frameworks. Join the dialogue and share your perspectives on how these revisions may shape the future of professional education!
