GoTyme Bank Philippines enhances user engagement and retention Read the full article: https://bit.ly/3UdBzkE Nathaniel (Nate) Clarke, the president and CEO of GoTyme Bank, one of the six digital banks in the Philippines, discussed the company's track record in the country and the next step in retaining and engaging users to grow wallet share. GoTyme is among the fastest-growing digital banks in the Philippines, adding about 250,000 new users per month through its hybrid distribution platform, which incorporates around 500 physical onboarding kiosks situated in the Gokongwei Group’s nationwide retail network. Around 60% of GoTyme’s customers are onboarded through these physical channels. This approach, successfully adopted in South Africa in 2018 and brought to the Philippine market in October 2020, is becoming a key competitive component in customer acquisition among digital banks in the Philippines. As of July 2024, GoTyme had around 3.9 million depositors with a fully-verified accounts. Clark expects the bank’s user base will exceed five million by the end 2024. ARPCSO was specifically established by the AMF to govern and oversee Buna’s operations, ensuring it provides an efficient and secure cross-border payment infrastructure. It was designed to reduce reliance on costly and slow traditional systems by enabling multi-currency payments in both regional and international currencies in real-time. By facilitating faster and more transparent payments, Buna and ARPCSO together aim to foster economic integration across the Arab region, enhancing trade, remittances, and investment flows. Currently, Buna facilitates payments across six currencies—US dollar (USD), euro (EUR), Saudi Riyal (SAR), Egyptian Pound (EGP), Jordanian Dinar (JOD), and Emirati Dirham (AED). With over 110 financial institutions onboard, Buna processes approximately 15,000 transactions per month, with a growth rate of 15% month-on-month. Professor Moorad Choudhry, chairman, of The DCRO Institute’s supervisory board, noted that Basel III and IV have made regulations overly complex and burdensome for banks. “It’s counterproductive if banks have to spend more time on regulatory compliance than anything else,” he said, advocating for a more streamlined regulatory approach. They discussed the growing resistance from major economies, particularly the US and China, to what Choudhry described as "an increasingly sophisticated, complex, onerous, and prescriptive international regulation regime."
