Breaking news! Tencent partners with Visa to bring palm recognition payments to Singapore. Announced today at #SFF2024, this partnership will enable pilot users to make safe and secure #digitalpayments by simply hovering their palm over a sensor—no card or phone needed. The service will initially launch in the lion city, with cardholders from participating banks, including DBS Bank, OCBC, and UOB, involved in the pilot program. This collaboration also marks the launch of Tencent Palm an initiative to introduce advanced palm recognition technology to new markets. As #COP16 gets underway in Colombia, we’re reminded how our actions impact the planet. At Tencent, we’re using technology to help protect it. Through our mission of #TechForGood, we’re tackling challenges like cutting emissions, conserving water, reducing waste, and preserving biodiversity. We are using the TNFD's LEAP approach to assess nature-related dependencies and impacts, refine biodiversity conservation strategies, and improve eco-friendly operations inside our businesses. In partnership with NGOs, scientists, researchers, community groups, and other stakeholders, Tencent and Tencent Foundation have implemented a range of sustainable initiatives from AI-powered tools and databases to protect endangered wildlife like snow leopards, to knowledge and education products that track migratory birds and reduce carbon emissions. We’re also supporting forest and mangrove restoration to help preserve the diverse species that live there. 🎮 Did You Know? Video games can help seniors stay young! 🌍 With over 761 million people aged 65+ worldwide, more and more seniors are seeing the benefits of playing games. Video games have been included for the first time at the annual National Health and Welfare Festival for the Elderly in Japan, where seniors are able to stay mentally sharp, physically active, and socially connected through healthy gameplay. It’s showing other senior citizens around the world that games are more than fun — they’re a lifeline to a healthier, more fulfilling life.
