Reading books is a commendable habit. They make us smarter, open our minds to new realities, and shift us toward perspectives we may never have considered. However, there’s a gap that many self-help and business books leave for local readers. These books are often shaped by the author's immediate environment—factors like their economy, social background, or education. While the insights from such books are valuable, they can sometimes be difficult to apply in our local markets, even though they may work brilliantly on a global scale. Don’t get me wrong, these books are incredibly useful. But there’s an increasing need for knowledge that speaks directly to us, from people who share our context—people born where we were born, who made mistakes we are about to make, and who understand our social and economic realities firsthand. A book by someone from a vastly different environment might inspire me to start, but a book from an established Chishimba would serve as my practical manual for true, lasting stability. Today's BOTD reminds me of an experience I had when I first ventured in to business. Even though that business didn't succeed. "Start. Scale. Exit. Repeat." by Colin C. Campbell is a book that every entrepreneur and would-be entrepreneur should read. It is that book with lots of promise of success. This review makes it much simpler understanding this book.

A fantastic book! 📖 I'm currently re-reading 'The E-Myth Revisited' - in my view, one of the most powerful books ever written for new & small businesses. I'm clearly not alone in this opinion, as it has sold over 2 million copies, and was also voted #1 business book by Inc. 500 CEOs! 🥇 Most of the content is related to entrepreneurship. However the author, Michael E. Gerber, does briefly tackle the subject of innovation. This passage really resonated with me: "Innovation is often thought of as creativity. But as Harvard Professor Theodore Levitt points out, the difference between creativity and Innovation is the difference between thinking about getting things done in the world and getting things done. Says Professor Levitt, "Creativity thinks up new things. Innovation does new things". So what? 1️⃣ We need to remember that innovation and creativity are fundamentally different things! Ideas are easy to generate and (despite what most people think) hold little value in themselves. It's only if & when ideas are executed that any value is created in real-life. 2️⃣ Innovation is primarily an action-based discipline i.e. you always make much more progress by doing, rather than by thinking or discussing. Lots of companies want to see themselves as innovative, especially in today's fast-moving world. However, the only robust way to evaluate whether it is true is to look at the level of concrete action that they take - projects, resources, budget, training, ... Have you read this book?
