𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐢𝐳𝐳𝐚 𝐁𝐨𝐱𝐞𝐬 𝐁𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐝? 🍕♻️ In short, yes... However, the main issue we encounter at our Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) is contamination. Leftover food in the box makes the material non-recyclable and can potentially contaminate the entire load. What You Can Do: 🧽Clean Your Box: Remove any leftover food and grease. ♻️Separate the Lid: If the bottom is too greasy, rip off the clean lid and recycle that part. 🍕Check Local Regulations: Some areas do not accept pizza boxes for recycling at all, so be sure to verify with your local authority. By following these steps, you can help ensure that your pizza boxes are recycled properly and effectively! #JBRecycling #Pizzaboxes #Conttamination #Recycle

A recycling myth for you...♻️ Myth: "You can't recycle pizza boxes." Fact: You can actually recycle pizza boxes. As long as they're clean! Remove any leftover food, grease, or liners before recycling. If the box is too dirty, tear off the clean top and recycle that portion.

In New York state, the Returnable Containers Act of 1982 aka "Bottle Bill", encourages recycling by charging a refundable deposit of 5 cents on certain beverage containers, currently including water, soda, and beer. This system reduces litter and provides an economic lifeline for thousands of people in NY. After 40 years, an update to the Bottle Bill is long overdue! We're fighting for a bigger, better Bottle Bill, which would double the deposit and handling fee that redemption centers like Sure We Can rely on, and include more beverage containers in the system. Stay tuned for more about the Bottle Bill and what you can do!

Did you know: Half a trillion single-use cups are made globally each year, over 70 for every person on the planet! Even if a cafe uses compostable cups, the majority of these will end up in landfills as they require a dedicated waste chain and commercial composting facilities. Around only 2% of single-use cups are recyclable. Takeaway drinks are obviously a huge aspect of the coffee industry and grabbing a quick drink to go has become the norm for many of us, but if you're a coffee fanatic, it's time to normalise bringing your own cup with you whenever you're out and about. With so many different styles and brands to choose from, which is your go-to keep cup and why? . #AltMlk #AlternativeMilk #BaristaLife #PlantBased #CoffeeLovers #SpecialtyCoffee #dairyfree #lifesbetterwithahealthyview

Get closed loop Not take - make -dispose Think cradle to cradle ! Bit dumb as an aluminium can is multi material - usually containing a plastic lining . So that means incineration of a valuable oil resource! Oil that could be recycled and used again and again infinitely rather than getting more virgin oil out of the ground . Have they researched the chemicals that are used to produce aluminium and the amount of of energy needed . We believe PET completely circular as a mono material is a better option. Eurostar looks like education is needed. Most cartons that contain liquid are plastic lined ! Also the more that is composted the more methane one of the worst greenhouse gases is produced . Look into recycled plastic and paper as a better solution ! The same must be considered when looking at longer term refillables. An holistic view really needs to be taken. Rather than jumping on the plastic bandwaggon. No plastic Pollution only Plastic Solutions !!
I posted yesterday about Eurostar's switching out of PET bottles in preference for beverages in aluminium cans only. I'm not sure how long this policy has been in place but it's already created some good conversation: https://lnkd.in/eYTmuPNi Another packaging policy they have pinned to the cafe area's wall is related to the use of compostable cups. There was no process in place to collect these cups for composting after use. Just a general waste bin where EVERYTHING seemed to go. This captive closed loop is a perfect environment to collect these cups. A missed opportunity. And another thing... I bought a drink on both legs (I forgot to bring my reusable mug. My bad). On both occasions, I was given two cups in one, presumably to take some of the heat out of holding a hot drink thereby using twice as many single-use cups as necessary. Have you experienced similar in other situations? Are compostable cups the best option here? Should we be encouraging greater reuse in this environment? #packaging #sustainablepackaging #sustainability
