THURSDAY THOUGHTS 🧠 A great way to refocus our fashion choices is to be more curious. Curiosity is the initial point of knowledge, so lean deeper into any questions you have to see how you can make an impact! "What exactly is slow fashion?" "Where can I donate these items to ensure they are actually distributed?" "What new materials can I try to feel more comfortable in my clothes?" While these may not be your exact questions, they're examples of a framework that leads us to seek more education surrounding our choices. From this, we compile resources and tips that encourage us to think deeper about how we shop, and share that insight with others as well! #EthicalFashion #SustainableFashion #EcoFashion #ConsciousFashion #EthicalStyle

👚 11.3 million TONS of textile waste end up in U.S. landfills every year. That's a whopping 85% of all textiles! In more tangible terms, imagine 2,150 textile pieces being discarded per second across the country. These numbers are alarming and call for a serious reconsideration of our fashion choices. 💡Delve into sustainable fashion practices with our #Miami innovators: Diana Eusebio, Gabriella Smith of The Upcycle Project, Taryn Hipwell, Aleksandra Sivokoneva of Mana Fashion Services, & Taylor Bloom of The Rescue Collection. 💚 Positive change begins locally and with small steps! #slowfashion #sustainability “That dollar is voting for the kind of world you want to see. That money is lending momentum to something. Like I always say, where are your values? Does this piece of clothing reflect who you are and who you want to be?” https://lnkd.in/eDVYJZYh

Consumer behavior plays a pivotal role. The fast fashion model, fueled by consumer demand for low-cost, rapidly changing styles, perpetuates a cycle of overconsumption and disposal. Shifting consumer mindsets towards valuing quality over quantity and embracing sustainable options is a fundamental yet challenging aspect of the industry’s transformation. Technological barriers add complexity. While promising sustainable technologies are emerging, investments in research and development are essential. This can be particularly challenging for smaller or less financially robust companies. How do we tackle this? #sustainablefashion #fastfashion
To date, EILEEN FISHER, INC. has reclaimed 1.8 million garments and developed two business streams: Eileen Fisher New, for second-hand garments, and Waste No More, which transforms worn-and-torn clothes into accessories, home accents and wall hangings. As an industry leader in circularity, Eileen’s mission is to chart a path for other apparel companies to become holistic by considering the entire life cycle of a garment and supporting regenerative practices. Explore Eileen’s story along with other examples of a #circulareconomy for fashion here: https://lnkd.in/exptuXxk #MakeFashionCircular

Anyone else focusing in on conscious consumption this September? It started with Oxfam alerting the world to the sheer amount of #fastfashion that lands in landfill with their national #secondhandseptember campaign. September marks a seasonal change in the calendar. Wardrobes are turned over from S/S to A/W and fashion weeks across the world make headlines. You could argue that buying nothing is the most conscious thing to do, but then there is the negative impact that that has on the economy - creative economy, retail economy, local manufacturing economy and local economies. If you buy from local brands designed, brands who have purpose written into their business DNA and secondhand retailers which support the fundraising efforts of important charities, then surely the offset is worth it. #secondhandseptember #consciousconsumption #slowfashion
Along with advocating for midlife, laterlife in #modelling and age positivity in #marketing, we are also huge supporters of #sustainablefashion. So with the arrival of #sustainableseptember a shout out to some of our favourite brands, many featured in this recent round up in the Independent 🍃 Nudie Jeans 🍃 Nobody's Child 🍃 Bibico 🍃 MARFA STANCE 🍃 Hiut Denim Co 🍃 Community Clothing 🍃 People Tree What's your favourite sustainable fashion brand? https://lnkd.in/dXZ3htkX

Georgia and I met at the Beacon Hill store last summer. We bonded over our love for Australia, fashion, and sustainability. I work at the stores 6 days/week, talking to customers about their vintage fashion shopping habits. As a retailer, I also learned challenges when it comes to reclosetting vintage items since they are all distinctive pieces. Common issues faced by secondhand retailers are inventory turnover and lengthy inventory processing time. Georgia and I caught up to talk about fashion and sustainability recently. I told her my vision for Vico Style based on my learning and she was intrigued. Here's what we currently do and what's the vision to help reduce fashion waste? 🧡We're still a DTC tech enabled vintage fashion start-up (brick & mortar and digital presence). 🧡To make vintage fashion discovery more convenient for vintage enthusiasts, we're building a more robust personalized technology platform to connect products to shoppers leveraging data and technology. 🧡 From the technology that we're building, we can help other all secondhand retailers to recloset their merchandise to new homes. Georgia Weir thank you for putting my vision in the forefront. Being an entrepreneur involves McGyvering problems and I'm loving every minute of it! Thank you everyone for all of your kind support. #entrepreneurship #sustainablefashion #secondhandfashion #vintagefashion
We're so honored to be featured by Are Media Pty Ltd for Vico Style's mission to reduce fashion waste. Beyond our current distribution channels, our goal is to recloset vintage fashion (and eventually all secondhand) by leveraging technology. Thank you Georgia Weir highlighting our mission and vision.
