Some SFFF products are formulated with low apparent viscosity and a quantity of partially hydrated polymers inside. These partially hydrated polymers really want to swell up to their full potential, increasing their viscosity. Water contamination of foam tanks can easily happen during long-term storage because all foam tanks, by definition, are connected to water in one way or another. Additionally, product instability is more likely to occur. The stability of these concentrates will more easily be disrupted due to various ambient conditions, such as temperature fluctuation, evaporation, etc. Ask your supplier if their product will experience a viscosity increase in contact with water. #fomtec #firefightingfoam #firefighting #fluorinefreefoam #envirobyfoamtec

A critical parameter for the setup of a #lyophilization process is the collapse temperature, often called Tc. At this temperature, the material either melts or softens so that it can no longer support its own structure and begins to flow. For this reason, the substance should be kept below Tc within the #primarydrying phase. However, a too low process temperature leads to an unacceptable slow progression. Therefore, it is important to know the value of the critical temperature. For crystalline systems, the maximally tolerable temperature corresponds to the eutectic melting temperature. Only below that point is the system completely solid. But most #freezedried formulations contain amorphous phases and in this case, the collapse temperature is close to the glass transition temperature of the maximally freeze concentrated solute (Tg´). In many cases, the Tc is slightly higher than the Tg´ while the exact difference between both temperatures is formulation-dependent.

Knowledge of the temperature at which the product undergoes collapse or eutectic melt of the porous structure created during sublimation, denoted the “collapse temperature” (Tc) for amorphous formulations, is an important process design parameter. Tc is the maximum allowable temperature during primary drying, although recently more companies are beginning to develop and operate cycles with the product temperature exceeding Tc.

You’re looking at the beginnings of a serious plant upgrade 🦾 Double trouble springs to mind, and although we typically keep things solutions orientated around here, the SRP agitator only spells bad news for any entrapped "fluff" that could lower the purity of ferrous scrap. Final tests are now complete for this giant scrap separator before it heads to its new home, just in time for the new year. The custom separation system is configured with each drum in a bottom-fed orientation, to maximise grade of ferrous recovery, and the double pass ensures that nothing of value is missed. Whilst both heavy-duty feeders provide an even and constant flow of material to the drums, the drums also benefit from a consistent magnetic field across their full working width unlike electromagnetic equivalents that have all their strength concentrated in the central section, which would compromise overall ferrous recovery for this particular application.
