🎬 This video went viral: Roger Federer giving a graduation ceremony speech at a US university. 🔔 Two key takeaways: 1️⃣ “Of the 1,526 singles matches I played in my career, I won nearly 80% of them. What % of points do you think I won in those matches? Only 54%. Even the top-ranked players barely win more than half the points they play.” Federer explains how after losing a point, you must learn to move on quickly. It highlights that the line between winning & losing everything is often thin. Victory isn’t just about the best forehands or winning serves. 2️⃣ Soft Skills ! The rest of his speech subtly highlights how an incredible combination of soft skills propelled him forward: #resilience, #adaptability, discipline and hard work, #selfconfidence, frustration management, learning, and especially handling constructive feedback, which helped him both personally and professionally. If it’s true for him, it must be true for us. #Tennis is an amazing sport because it’s a battle between two opponents, involving physical prowess, technique, tactics, and emotional management. It’s also one of the most frustrating sports, where players aren’t allowed to show their frustration. But that’s another discussion we can revisit. Failing is part of life and an integral part of success. Failing at some point in life does not make you a failure. Learn from it and get smarter. Move on and look forward to the next challenge. It is all about the kind of mindset you have.

Okay…this is a must know statistic… …need not like or know anything about tennis… Or have an any knowledge or affinity towards Roger Federer. What we need to know are two things: 1. Roger was the #1 tennis player in the world for 310 weeks, including a record 237 consecutive weeks, and finished as the year-end No. 1 five times. ***Holy smokes was he good - right!!?? Now check this out and let it sink in… 2. He won only 54% of points that he played! Almost even with his opponents!!! ***What!? He lost nearly as many points as he won and was #1 in the world for 237 consecutive weeks!! Surprised!? How many of us feel like we have to win points in our business and life at a higher frequency than Roger just to feel adequate!?? Turns out we don’t! If we are slightly more likely than not over time to get things right, we can be among the greatest ever at what we do! Check it out directly from Roger’s mouth… What do we think!??

On June 9, 2024 Roger Federer gave the final commencement speech at Darmouth College with interesting statistics. He shows that he is still champion because he knows that nothing is effortless. He is reinventig himself out of the court because life goes on beyond tennis, beyond what we did yesterday and beyond what we are doing today. Roger says that tennis is not a sport based primarily on having a gift or talent and being fit. What is it about? Watch the 90 seconds of the first lesson of his speech and listen to the final word in the video. Epic speech from Roger Federer on lessons learned from tennis. Marginal gains lead to huge results! From 2004 to 2011, Novak Djokovic went from being ranked outside the top 100 players in the world to #1. The % of matches he won climbed from 49% to 90%. The difference is razor thin, on average 2 points more won per set. Marginal gains lead to huge success. #StartSmall #WinBig In 2017 the #1 tennis player in the world was @RafaelNadal . He won ~56% of points (~$15.8M). @GeraldMelzer was #100 & he won ~51% of points (~$300K). The difference is razor thin or an average of 2 points more won per set. Marginal gains lead to huge success. #Confidence #Grit #Resilience #MentalToughness

With only 54% of points won, Nadal has: 1. 22 Grand Slams 2. 14 Roland Garros (96.5% win rate, 112W-4L) 3. 36 Masters titles And much more But how is it possible? Because tennis is a game of fine margins. Every point matters, and the important points matter most of all. The best players have the best mentality which allows: 1. Consistency. Performing more consistently than the opponent usually means winning slightly more points overall, which is enough to win. 2. Being clutch under pressure. Even IF they don’t win more points, winning the most important points allows them to win the match. This combination of consistency + clutch under pressure, creates a chain of effects⤵️ Nadal career stats: 54% points won ⬇️ 60% games won ⬇️ 77% sets won ⬇️ 84% matches won => there is a lot of truth in this for leadership and life in general. Stacking up many „small“ positives is powerful. Not everything will go right and that’s ok. (Source @focusedtennis)

What's Your Legacy? Tennis is my favorite sport, and it's not just about the incredible rallies. Great players like Federer and Nadal inspire me both on and off the court. Nadal shared a conversation with Federer about something fundamental: legacy. While their records and titles are impressive, they both agree on what they want to be remembered for – being good people. This is a powerful message that transcends tennis. It's about the impact we have on those around us. Focusing on the "how" – how we treat others, how we approach challenges, and the values we embody. Being a leader by our actions is more important than simply chasing achievements. #tennis #inspiration #leadership #Federer #Nadal https://lnkd.in/ew-3T84K.

‘I was repeating to myself - point by point.’ - Jasmine Paolilni. Tiebreaks can feel harsh… The penalty shootout of a tennis match. Two players, having battled for hours, step up to decide who plays a Wimbledon final. One point win can feel like a huge boost, while one lost can feel like a bad slip. In this scenario, paying attention to the context can be disastrous. ‘If I win this I am in the final’…. ‘I am X points away from the final’… By focusing on each individual point, players can avoid the overwhelming pressure of the match's broader context. A point-by-point approach allows players to stay adaptable and responsive. Momentum can shift rapidly, and the ability to stay present and adjust as necessary can make the difference between victory and defeat. #tennis #wimbledon #mindset #shiftingfocus

When #CarlosAlcaraz and #AlexanderZverev faced off at #StadeRolandGarros on Sunday, it was the first #FrenchOpen final since 2004 without the involvement of either of the “#BigThree”. During those 19 years, #RafaelNadal, #NovakDjokovic and #RogerFederer lifted the #CoupedesMousquetaires a combined 18 times, with Rafael Nadal winning an astonishing 14 titles to #Djokovic’s three and #Federer’s one French Open title. #StanWawrinka was the only player to break the triumvirate’s dominance during those years, beating Novak Djokovic in the 2014 final. With Federer long retired, #Nadal losing in the first round to eventual finalist #Zverev and Djokovic forced to pull out ahead of his quarterfinal with knee injury, this year’s tournament at #RolandGarros was another sign that the era of the “Big Three” is slowly but inevitably coming to an end. While Nadal couldn’t bring himself to confirm that his first-round loss marked the end of his reign over #Paris’ famous #redclay, he did admit that it was likely his last match at the French Open. And while Novak Djokovic will surely come back from his injury and looks adamant to add more trophies to his record-breaking haul, even he won’t be able to play his physically and emotionally challenging game forever. As this chart illustrates, the "Big Three" have won 66 of the past 83 #GrandSlam tournaments, dating back all the way to 2003. There has never been an era in #tennis during which three players have dominated the sport in the way that Federer, Nadal and Djokovic have over the past two decades. And while the "Big Three" no longer exist, its memory will live on in tennis history. https://lnkd.in/gB-zktq3
