I recently got to talk to Willa Koerner for the series “Ecologies of Entanglement” about my creative practice. It's called "A New Order of Regenerative Kinship". We discussed why I'm endlessly inspired by moth camouflage, how pollinator - flower relationships are a rudimentary form of ecological cognition, how we can design technical systems to be living systems, what this means for art practice, and much more! The latest issue of Parks Stewardship Forum is now online, and it includes an interview with author Tony Hiss (Rescuing the Planet: Protecting Half the Land to Heal the Earth), who gave an outstanding presentation for us last year on landscape-scale conservation. Click on this link and scroll down to "How Lived-in Landscapes could help rescue the planet: An Interview with Tony Hiss." Recognize the photo in the magazine? It's our very own Janet Gallogly Allegany Wildlands! https://lnkd.in/dHA5Fcic

"So, what do you want to do after University?" The dreaded question many of us have been asked before. I, like many university students, usually reply with the classic "Oh I'm not sure yet" or "Whatever will have me!". But, we deserve better than that mystery. At Atlas, we have found that for humanities students, especially geography, our courses are so broad that there are just so many career options and pathways out there for us that it's almost difficult to choose where to begin - the Paradox of Choice. This is where Atlas was born - in the information and knowledge gap between professionals and young people. A platform run by students, for students. This gap is what we seek to bridge via our 'Interviews with Professionals' series, to provide students with better clarity to be able to make more informed career choices and gain a head start in an industry you love. Today, we are excited to announce our first edition titled "Birds of a Feather: Beccy Speight Talks Youth, Conservation, and Leading the RSPB" from our 'Interviews with Professionals' series, featuring Beccy Speight, the CEO of RSPB. You can read this edition by clicking the link below which will take you to our Substack page. ✨ Have any suggestions for who we should interview next, or have a particular industry you're interested in learning more about? Comment them below, and we will try and make it happen for you in our next edition! Written by Lilia Hakem, Founder of Atlas 🗺 https://lnkd.in/emSEsNW7

Recent release... my thesis on designing conservation initiatives ethically, for effectiveness and scalability, is now online. Here, I offer a comprehensive conservation framework to inspire conservationists to adopt the best practices that we demand of industry and academia. Where we are humbled by the damage our nations have caused at home and internationally. Where we offer to repair and compensate for the damage we have done historically and seek to do no harm in future actions. Where rights-holders and resource-users retain agency. Where we move from language of 'enforcement' and 'compliance' to asking "would you like any help, and if so, what would you like us to do and how?"

🌳 💬 How do people engage with your forest site? Every #forest tells a #story, and so do its #communities. Tool 2: Learning how stakeholders engage with a forest site – from our ‘Forest Storytelling and Engagement for Change’ toolkit – offers concrete methods to uncover how people and #stakeholders relate to your site and what they hope for its future. This tool introduces methods like #surveying, #workshops, and even collaborative activities such as #science-#art projects and field trips. It also shows you how to explore online #perceptions, namely mapping how people talk about your forest site across digital spaces. By understanding these diverse views, you can create materials and activities that resonate and inspire #action.
