We are excited to share that the results of the second phase of the SPAGN Priority Setting Partnership (PSP) have just been published in “BMC Cancers”. This initiative has been instrumental in identifying crucial research and advocacy priorities for sarcoma patients and their carers. 🔬 Research Priorities: - Causes of Sarcoma - Prognosis and Risk of Recurrence - More Research for specific Sarcoma Subtypes - The Role of Immunotherapy and Targeted Therapies - Hereditary Aspects in Sarcomas 🗣️ Patient Advocacy Priorities: - Enhancing the Diagnostic Process - Access to Tumor DNA Analysis - Establishing an International Sarcoma Registry 🌐 Impact on the Sarcoma Community These findings will help steer future research, aid funding agencies in project assessment, and strengthen the role of patient advocates in representing our community's needs. It was an honor to be with Elizabeth O'Donnell, MD, DipABLM, Todd M. Sachs, MD and Amanda Jordan from John Hancock at a Dana-Farber Cancer Institute / New England Employee Benefits Council (NEEBC) Oncology Summit this week to discuss early cancer detection, cancer risk, prevention and patient navigation. A few takeaways: - Employers and onsite blood draw / cancer screening work events play an important role for making early detection and cancer screening easy and broadly accessible - New centers like the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Early Detection and Interception clinics and new partnerships between primary care, oncology, and across the healthcare ecosystem accelerate broad implementation of new technologies like #mced - Polygenic risk scores and personalized risk assessments hold promise for tailoring future screening efforts

February 4 is World Cancer Day, and Dr. Stephen Stefani, oncologist and AHF's Board Member has a message for you: "In the field of oncology, we have witnessed groundbreaking progress with drugs now tailored to target specific anomalies in tumors. However, the journey towards integrating this state-of-the-art medicine within Latin America is fraught with hurdles. Our health systems are intricate, resources are scarce, and the portion of GDP dedicated to healthcare is insufficient. In the face of these challenges, particularly accentuated by the pandemic, it is imperative that our discussions on cancer care financing expand to encompass a wider array of procedures. This approach is crucial not only for enhancing efficiency but also for bridging the gap of inequality. The Americas Health Foundation has been at the forefront of this endeavor, leading numerous initiatives across the region. From workshops to consensus conferences, task forces, and beyond, we are committed to fostering the adoption of value-based healthcare.
