Global temperatures have hit an all-time high. States across the country face increasing climate disasters. And research shows conditions will only worsen if we don't manage the harm we're inflicting on the planet. People of color, especially Indigenous stewards of our land, have known this for a long time. Nonprofit Quarterly, in partnership with the Donors of Color Network, urges philanthropy to do better in supporting the POC organizations on the ground working toward environmental justice. "Philanthropy often funds organizations working on climate change solutions, but only a tiny fraction of those dollars—just 1.3 percent—go to BIPOC-led climate organizations. BIPOC-led organizations are often working for and in the communities most impacted by climate change and environmental racism with the least amount of resources." https://lnkd.in/g3mznDQ3 #ClimateChange #EnvironmentalJustice #POC

We are always deeply grateful for Native Americans in Philanthropy’s contributions to the philanthropic space, including educational posts like this. Using correct terminology is critical to disrupting dehumanization. Reposted from Native Americans in Philanthropy's page: Native American? Native? Indigenous? Because terminology for Indigenous people is complex, personal, and nuanced, it is crucial to center Indigenous voices when learning how to respectfully reference Native nations and Indigenous communities. This includes understanding the differences between names Indigenous people claim for themselves, and the ones given to them by a broader culture.
