Today, we've published an evidence review, commissioned by Mission 44, exploring the barriers and solutions to achieving a more ethnically diverse teaching workforce from entry to senior leadership level. The review highlights a variety of challenges facing teachers of colour across the teaching workforce, from a lack of preparation and support in Initial Teacher Training for the challenges of diversity and racism that teachers of colour may face, to a lack of encouragement and preconceptions linked to one's culture and/or faith acting as barriers to senior leadership and headship. Systems leadership: honouring humanity through EDI Looking forward to presenting at the Institute for Educational and Social Equity conference at the York St. John University. I’ll be talking about - how to create psychologically safe spaces for personal reflection. - How we acknowledge our feelings and emotions, whilst also positioning ourselves for what can be both liberating and uncomfortable work. - How we can show humanity to ourselves and acknowledge our emotions around this work, both good and bad. - How we show humanity to others and decentre ourselves from the conversation and actions, to provide space for those that are most affected. - How to ensure collective responsibility as a leadership team. Looking forward to meeting other delegates, presenters and members of the Institute for Educational and Social Equity team in person Professor Paul Miller Christopher Jones

As the number of Latino students in Arizona continues to rise, representation in seats and positions of decision making and power in Arizona continue to lag. But we need more than representation across our boardrooms and classrooms, we need individuals that are committed to student outcomes, that will use data to drive their decisions instead of relying on their personal beliefs and biases. Values-driven leaders are not afraid of being accountable to their decisions, they are committed to learning, being bold and always ensuring that students are valued and honored. Learn more about the gap and representation and impact of leadership by downloading our MAPA Report: https://lnkd.in/gdzdY66s

🔵 IOL FREE Webinar - Tues 5th March 4pm This small-scale exploratory case study in an Outdoor Centre investigates the experiences of people of colour in leadership in outdoor education. Eliciting voices with a qualitative methodology using one-to-one interviews and focus group discussion the study develops two research questions. These discover issues related to people of colour in leadership and how best opportunities to leadership are developed. Using inductive thematic analysis patterns emerged as thematic maps with six important themes; lack of diversity, self-limiting behaviours, access to environment, good role models, access to workplace and awareness. The conclusion creates understandings that shared responsibility is needed for future actions. The Wallace Foundation has found effective principals perform five key practices well: 1. Shaping a vision of academic success for all students 2. Creating a climate hospitable to education 3. Cultivating leadership in others 4. Improving instruction 5. Managing people, data, and processes to foster school improvement. Each of these practices feed into a key leadership role at the school system level. This is why the principalship is SO important and it’s essential districts provide adequate support for principals to be effective in their work.
