The Balancing Act: Respecting Needs & Valuing Time in Therapy ⚖️ As a mental health professional, my top priority is your well-being. Unexpected events come up, and I understand that sometimes appointments need to be cancelled. 🫂 However, frequent last-minute cancellations can disrupt the therapeutic process. Here's why: * Preparation: I dedicate time before each session to review your progress and tailor the session accordingly. Last-minute cancellations disrupt this prep, impacting our work together. * Momentum: Therapy is about building momentum and consistency. Missed sessions can create gaps, making it harder to maintain progress. * Missed Opportunities: Your appointment time is reserved specifically for you. Cancellations prevent others who need help from accessing those slots. So, what can we do to create a win-win situation? * Develop Routines: Schedule therapy at a consistent time that works for you. Treat it like any other important commitment. * Set Reminders: Use calendar invites or reminders to stay on track. * Communicate Early: If something comes up, let me know as soon as possible. We can discuss options for rescheduling or navigating the situation. Regarding cancellation fees: These fees aren't meant to punish, but to acknowledge the value of our time together. They help ensure the sustainability of my practice, allowing me to continue providing quality care to you and others. Remember, therapy is an investment in your well-being. Let's work together to establish healthy habits that support your progress and respect the time we dedicate to your mental health journey. #mentalhealth #therapy #boundaries #communication #selfcare

🤗 𝐄𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐲: 𝐀 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 “𝘐𝘧 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘯 𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘬 𝘵𝘰 𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘭𝘰𝘢𝘥 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘬𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘢𝘵 𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵, 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘵’𝘴 𝘵𝘰𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘢𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶’𝘥 𝘸𝘢𝘭𝘬 𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘰𝘥 - 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘪𝘵?” I’ve asked this question to many people over the years. Why? Because believe it or not, when it comes to considering therapy - it’s really that simple. You don’t need a huge life-altering trauma to benefit from therapy, you don’t even really need a reason at all. Just as we go to the gym to keep our bodies fit, therapy helps keep our minds healthy. King Charles has now recognised that mental health support is just as essential as physical health care. So what’s the problem with talking about our problems? 👩⚖️ 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐢𝐠𝐦𝐚 Many still see seeking therapy as a sign of weakness, especially in cultures valuing resilience. Ironically, it takes great strength to seek help. While NHS therapy services can have long wait times and private therapy comes at a cost, dismissing it as unnecessary is a missed opportunity for growth and support. ✅ 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐲 Let’s get therapy on the to do list. Here’s how: • Encourage mental health conversations in the workplace and between peer groups. A check in, a coffee, a DM, a team meeting. They all make an impact! • Ensure easy access to confidential therapy services, by offering them as part of your benefits package, and recommending the ones you love to your managers and peers. Sharing is caring! • Get comfy sharing your experience with therapy with others. The more we talk, the more others feel able to contribute to the conversation. Lead by example!! Together, we can create a culture where seeking help is seen as a strength, and where everyone has the tools they need to thrive. 🧡 #MentalHealth #Therapy #WorkplaceWellbeing #SelfDevelopment #MentalWellness #EmployeeSupport #TalkTuahTherapist

Reflecting on today's insightful webinar with Dr. Tarika Sharma on Empathetic Fatigue—a profound exploration into the emotional toll within professions like healthcare and mental health. Dr. Sharma emphasized the critical role of maintaining healthy boundaries in preventing this fatigue. In her wise words, 'Overstepping or understepping the boundaries will never help in the case of empathy.' This resonates deeply, highlighting how balance is key. Establishing clear limits in our interactions not only safeguards our own well-being but also enhances our ability to provide effective support. In professions where empathy is a daily currency, we often overlook the signs of fatigue due to a lack of awareness. Dr. Tarika's insights serve as a compass, guiding us towards a more sustainable and compassionate approach in our roles. Let's prioritize our own well-being to better serve others. Thank you PsyConnect for organising such insightful webinars. #EmpatheticFatigue #HealthyBoundaries #selfcare

🚨Mental Health Awareness Week 🚨 One of our 5 steps to wellbeing is movement, and research shows that people struggle to fit this into their life's due to their busy demands. Exercise does not have to be strenuous in order to be affective, and it produces dopamine into the body. The opposite of depression is expression. Our body keeps the score if we are not releasing through movement..... 💃👯♀️🤸♀️🏊♂️ I encourage you to explore your non negotiables for keeping your mental health well. •Notice if you skip out of exercise or movement when over stretched in work? •Notice if you go for weeks or months with no activity if life becomes full? Self-care is necessary in these busy, stressful periods and we will benefit most during these times by just showing up consistently for ourselves. Make it fun because we cannot really on motivation..... Raise your hand if THIS would be your scenario if you started therapy! 🙋🏾♀️ You go in thinking, "Okay, I'm gonna fix this one issue," but then, BAM! Surprise!
