RMA - The Royal Marines Charity’s Post

To all my friends, family, colleagues and acquaintances, today is my 10 week countdown to take on the Cataran Yomp. The Cateran Yomp is the biggest, toughest event of its kind. Every year, hundreds of Yompers gather in the Scottish wilderness to battle through the foothills of the Cairngorm Mountains, walking continuously for 54, 36 or 22 miles over 24 hours. Based on an infamous long-distance military training march, it takes every ounce of grit you possess. And every single step helps our mission: to be there for soldiers, for veterans, for their families. For life. The Yomp takes courage. Discipline. Integrity. Teamwork. It will not be easy so I have signed up to do the 54 miles, and the hard training starts now. As tough as it will be, the main aim is raising money for the Army Benevolent Fund, as it provides essential support to soldiers, veterans, and their families in times of need. This fund helps with various needs such as financial assistance, mental health support, housing, and rehabilitation services. By contributing to this cause, individuals can show their gratitude and support for those who have served and sacrificed for their country. This financial support can make a significant difference in the lives of military personnel and their loved ones, ensuring they receive the care and assistance they deserve. Final preparations are underway to welcome the Veterans arriving out in Switzerland tomorrow - the start of the Ski-habilitation Week 2024! For many, this is the start of their support, the next chapter in their rehabilitation journey. Travelling can be smooth and easy for many. But when you are battling mental health challenges, or have physical limitations, travelling suddenly throws up a lot more hurdles. So the next 24 hours, until the Veterans are settled in their accommodation, will feel incredibly challenging, full of uncertainties for them. BUT- we have a fantastic team on hand! A team who escort the Veterans through the journey, on hand to help with additional needs, to answer questions and to solve problems. Each stage of the Ski-habilitation Week can bring challenges to conquer, barriers to break through, battles to fight. But there is a team of Buddies to support the Veterans, an experienced Medical Team on hand to help, Vet Reps to problem solve and the SWV Team who know the process- to support, nurture and guide. 42 Days Until... ...The 2024 NYC Navy Seal Swim. I am humbled by the support of my efforts to participate and honor the brave men and women who served our great nation, first responders, and firefighters. To date, we have raised $4,000 towards our $5,000 goal!!!!!! Any support would be greatly appreciated and all proceeds go directly to Navy SEAL Foundation. Concussion Legacy Foundation Canada & Ottawa Race Weekend Fellow Royals (and anyone else interested), The Concussion Legacy Foundation Canada (CLFC) raises awareness and conducts research into the long-term effects of brain injuries among athletes, serving military and veterans. CLFC has three major initiatives: PROJECT ENLIST, which has as its goals: the autopsy of donated brains (athletes, serving military and veterans) to determine the incidence of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) in these at-risk populations, research towards the diagnosis of CTE among living patients, and the possible treatment among those suffering from the effects of post-concussion syndrome that can lead to CTE and related PTSD. OPERATION BRAIN HEALTH, which is a program recommending four habits that promote mental and overall health that focus on diet (Mediterranean), exercise (aerobic), socialization (staying engaged), and rest (full night’s sleep). CLFC HELPLINE, which provides patient navigation services for those suffering from the effects of post-concussion syndrome and suspected CTE. New Ypres League The New Ypres League is an Ypres based charity dedicated to remembering the fallen of all sides in The Ypres Salient during the Great War of 1914 - 1918. Remembrance in the Ypres Salient of today presents us with a whole new set of unique challenges. The last veterans of the Great War left us a few years ago but remembering the fallen in the Salient is still as relevant today as it was in the 1920s and 30s. Although the Great War ended over 100 years ago, the Salient still regularly gives up its grisly harvest. The remains of over 135,000 soldiers of the Great War lay unrecovered in the cold clay of Flanders, these remains are still being recovered every year. Once the remains have gone through the identification process, they are reburied with military honours in one of the many military cemeteries in the area. These ceremonies and the sacrifice made by these soldiers require official recognition in the form of wreath laying and the attendance of a standard bearer. In addition to the burials there are many ceremonies that require official attendance, anniversaries of major battles, special Last Post ceremonies, visits from VIPS all of which require official attendance.  However, as time marches on, and age becomes more of a factor, there are fewer and fewer people and organisations available in the Ypres Salient to perform these tasks. It is vital that the sacrifice made by the fallen in the Ypres Salient is not forgotten and that a whole new generation of volunteers are encouraged actively to partake in remembrance activities.
