I fully agree with Labour’s proposal to allow teachers and lecturers to work from home. It’s time to move with the modern times, shedding historic, nonsensical workplace conditions and shifting away from the negative micromanagement systems that set us up for failure. Research shows that flexible work options boost job satisfaction by 75%, and reduce burnout by 70%. This shift will attract and retain top talent, ensuring a more sustainable future for education. Let’s embrace change for the benefit of educators and students alike. #WorkFromHome #EducationFlexibility #LabourPolicy #ModernWorkplace

Aside from the near tabloid level of headline, this is an interesting article. Would increased flexibility in the workforce actually improve recruitment? Presumably most schools would actually need to recruit more teachers to manage this and with there would be additional HR costs, more complex timetabling issues and a host of other logistical issues. I'm definitely not saying this isn't a good idea - I'd be more than willing to have flexible working, but I can't see many schools or. academy trusts rushing to try this - just the opposite. Whilst the benefits of working less for staff are clear - increased wellbeing, lower absence, greater efficiency - I've only ever encountered a distinct prejudice against this. The prevailing attitude I've encountered has been that consistency in terms of the day to day routines for students is the priority and that having staff in for more hours more frequently has been seen as the key to this. Whatever the answer, teacher recruitment won't be solved by a 'lie in'. #education #educationalreform https://lnkd.in/ejFXKdpP
