NEW REPORT FROM CORAM FAMILY AND CHILDCARE - Early education for disadvantaged children: How local action can support take-up of the 15 hours entitlement. The report finds: Many families face restrictions in how they can take up their hours, and must often pay additional charges, meaning the entitlement is not always free or fully accessible for eligible children. Parents struggle with confusing entitlements and difficult navigation. Councils report that lengthy applications and complex systems make accessing funded childcare challenging. Providers are concerned about inadequate funding to support disadvantaged children, particularly those with SEND. The report outlines changes that can be made both nationally and locally to support higher take-up of the 15-hours entitlement.

Convenient, affordable after-school care is an issue that CUPEBC has been working towards for a very long time. This fall, a pilot project will start at three school districts in BC to provide fully integrated before- and after-school childcare options at BC's public schools. The Disabled Children’s Partnership want to understand more about access to childcare for disabled children and their families across England.    Parents tell them about challenges they face to find childcare that meets their disabled child’s needs in a location or at a time convenient for them. Childcare provision may include formal childcare at a local school, private day nursery or be provided by a local childminder. This survey will help them find out the current issues affecting disabled children and their families who need child care. The findings will be used to campaign and engage with policymakers and to bring about change for disabled children and their families.
