Starting in October, the licenses for major operators like Lime, Dott, and Tier Mobility will be revoked due to their failure to enforce necessary safety measures and manage parking effectively. Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida emphasized that the current system has not met safety requirements, leading to this decision aimed at protecting residents and pedestrians alike. This move follows a growing trend in cities worldwide, where e-scooter sharing has faced criticism for irresponsible riding and chaotic parking. Madrid's decision echoes similar actions taken in Paris, which recently banned rented e-scooters after a public consultation revealed widespread safety concerns. As urban areas grapple with the implications of shared mobility, Madrid's ban reflects a commitment to prioritizing public safety over convenience. #TheSocialTalks #Madrid #EScooterBan #UrbanSafety #TalkSocialToUs

Not all types of parking spaces are bad. So, yes more space to help travelers walk-bike-roll🚲🚶♀️♿ And Paris votes (again). This time much more aligned with its multimodal agenda. Well, a step towards it. 54.6% voted in favor of 'heavy, bulky, polluting' vehicles paying more parking. Although, the point around out-of-towners vs folks living in the city....ehhh....something to think about. Like I said, it's a step in favor. Would love to see a sizeable advantage to carshare parking. Parking fees do add up to quite a bit for carshare operations. What would you like to see in your city? #activetransportation #sharedmobility #parking #multimodal #carshare #profitablegrowth #policy

Cork Airport, in conjunction with Bus Éireann and the National Transport Authority, has made a series of improvements to real-time display technology and bus parking, which will stand to benefit both visitors and more frequent users of bus services to and from Cork Airport. In streamlining the display of both inbound and outbound services, new bus parking arrangements have been included in the latest round of upgrades which will provide a dedicated stance for buses travelling to/from Cork City, and for buses travelling to/from Kinsale and Carrigaline. Additionally, Bus Éireann has deployed larger, double-decker buses on the 225 route between Carrigaline and Cork City which will add an additional 50% capacity on northbound and southbound services. These improvements have been introduced on the back of a significant increase in arriving and departing passengers choosing to use public transport options to get and from the airport. Market research undertaken by Cork Airport has shown a 70% increase in the number of passengers opting to take the bus to and from the airport of recent. Niall MacCarthy, Managing Director at Cork Airport added: “We love public transport at Cork Airport, and we are working closely with the NTA and Bus Éireann to increase capacity and services to serve the needs of locals and visitors alike. Our passenger’s utilisation of public buses has doubled since 2019 but there is demand to grow public transport even more. We will continue to engage with NTA and Bus Éireann to seek further increases in capacity and frequency, moving in time to a 24-hour service.” #LoveTakingOff #PublicTransport #Sustainability Cork City Council - Comhairle Cathrach Chorcaí | Cork County Council | Cork Chamber | Cork Business Association | Fáilte Ireland | daa

It’s been a promising couple weeks in the UK world of micromobility. Firstly, ministers approved proposals from towns and cities such as Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority and Gloucestershire County Council to expand the e-scooter trial boundaries so that more people will soon have access to this safe, sustainable and reliable alternative to cars. 🛴 This is a BIG deal as the trials have effectively been held back since they were originally launched in 2020/21. But there’s more! 👏 Ministers have now also invited new towns and cities to come forward to express interest in introducing e-scooter trials of their own. Up until this point there hasn’t been any movement on this front despite a number of towns and cities being interested in trialling this form of transport to help meet their net zero objectives. 🌍 Huge thanks to Local Transport Minister Simon Lightwood and the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom for progressing these initiatives. I’m now more hopeful than ever that ministers now ensure that cities such as London have the regulatory powers to effectively manage e-bikes and move away from the ‘wild west’ approach Londoners now face, and that they swiftly commit to progressing legislation for e-scooters so that we can finally apply lessons learned from trials underway today and in the future. 🙏 Let’s now hope the English devolution bill soon includes e-bike powers for cities and that e-scooters are finally covered in the next Kings Speech! 🤞 #micromobility #netzero #movefast #fixthings #escooters #ebikes
Exciting news to share - the UK government has opened an application process for new e-scooter trial areas. E-scooter trials are currently live in 22 regions across England and this announcement opens the door for more towns and cities to revolutionise urban mobility. A Department for Transport spokesperson told us: “We want to deliver integrated transport that reduces emissions, improves journeys, and gives people choice over how they travel. We are assessing interest from local authorities who are seeking to open new e-scooter trials. This will allow us to continue learning how to run successful rental schemes which put safety first and ensure the best possible service.” Read all about it here on Zag Daily: https://lnkd.in/e2Rsfnuh

Facilitating solutions that boost walkability and improve access to our public open spaces through adapting government policies around ownership and enhancing partnerships between cities & their citizens. Pride in place.
If you are in a position to help those making decisions on transport or coordinating with local agencies thinking of changing / stalling / stopping a local infrastructure projects in your area please 🙏🏽 read : Ministers prioritised driving in England partly due to conspiracy theories .. “While many critics assumed at the time this was just rhetoric, the documents indicate Harper and the Department for Transport (DfT) used this definition as the basis for one of the biggest shifts in transport policy for decades. ‘Another document advised ministers they should drop plans to improve active travel “quietly”, adding: “We would not propose to make any public announcement to this effect.’ Our plan for drivers backs the majority of the public who drive and will review guidance on over-zealous traffic schemes that impinge on people’s freedoms, such as low traffic neighbourhoods, to ensure there is strong local support.” https://lnkd.in/gqiJtEq3

Micromobility Shift in Urban Policy: Madrid’s E-Scooter Ban Joins Paris in Resetting Mobility Options Madrid has decided to ban e-scooter rentals starting next month due to permit violations by operators Lime, Dott, and Tier. This move echoes Paris’s recent e-scooter rental ban, as both cities confront challenges related to accessibility, safety, and compliance in the micromobility landscape. Question: How should cities balance the need for innovative transportation solutions with public safety and compliance standards? Could policies be improved, or should micromobility companies adapt more responsibly? Article here: https://lnkd.in/g3xXst8w #EquitableCities #UrbanMobility #SustainableCities #Micromobility
