About us

Cork County Council is the second largest Local Authority in the Republic of Ireland and the largest based on geographic area size. The Council has an annual revenue budget of approximately €300m and services a population of 400,000 people, or 141,000 households. Current staff numbers total 2,000 approximately. The County Council has a designated membership of 55 Councillors who are elected to the Council every five years. The primary purpose of the Elected Members is to develop and implement policy for the range of services delivered. In conducting its business, the Council meets twice a month as a full Council and is split into three Divisional Committees; North, South, and West, each of whom meets monthly. What does the Council do? The Council delivers a broad and diverse range of services, including: Roads Motor Taxation Housing Planning Environmental Services Economic Development Tourism Community Development Arts & Heritage Fire Services Library Services. Frontline services are delivered across eight Municipal Districts, and are designed to benefit businesses, residents, and visitors alike.

  • 🤝Thank you to Cork County Fire Service, The National Ambulance Service, An Garda Síochána and road safety advocates who partnered with us to host an important road safety event in Fermoy for over 400 students. ✅The event included personal stories from people whose lives were changed following road traffic collisions, outdoor demonstration showing what happens at the scene of a road traffic collision with all services working together, including the Fire Service using cutting equipment and the National Ambulance Service showing students how a casualty is extracted from a vehicle using a spinal board. 📍🗓️ This event is the first in a series of our Countywide Multi-School workshops with the next one planned for Mallow in May 2025. ▶️For further info, visit: https://lnkd.in/evdh9Mbj

  • 📣🏆We are excited to annouce the return of our Anti-Litter Challenge for 2025. The competition has become an annual fixture for towns and villages in the county and is now open for applications. 🤝Communities compete and are scored by judges based on the presence or absence of litter on their roads and streets. The challenge is hugely popular with Tidy Towns groups, community organisations and environmentally conscious volunteers who work tirelessly to keep their communities’ litter free. 🗓️Closing date for applications is Wednesday the 9th of April 2025.   • 😀Our Arts Office had the honour to attend a St Patrick's day celebration with President Michael D. Higgins this past weekend at Áras an Uachtaráin. 🤝The celebration was marked by a special reception called 'Samhlaíocht agus An Náisiún – Imagination and The Nation' initiative for groups and people that have made a particular contribution to Irish society.   • 📣Funding of over €480,000 has been awarded by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage to support the repair and restoration of 22 historic buildings in Cork County, under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS) and the BHIS Historical Thatched Buildings (HTB). ✅ 18 Cork County projects are set to undertake conservation works including schools, churches and cathedrals, Georgian and Victorian shops and townhouses, as well as late medieval country houses.
