Earlier this summer, we broke ground on Buildings 158 and 210 at the West LA VA North Campus. We are excited to share a video documenting the day's celebration. These buildings will provide 87 permanent supportive homes for previously unhoused Veterans, and bring us closer to realizing our vision—creating the nation's largest supportive housing community for Veterans. 🎬 Special thanks to Veteran-owned HAMMR Productions for this moving look at our groundbreaking ceremony! #supportivehousing #Veterans U.S.VETS Century Housing Thomas Safran & Associates

Veterans' Day: Navigating Honor in a Post-Modern Society The question of whether we should honor our veterans presents a multifaceted issue. On the one hand, the public recognition of veterans acknowledges their unusual and extraordinary sacrifices in service of a nation. It is about a community openly expressing gratitude for the bravery and selflessness service of those who have worn the uniform. On the other hand, an uncritical reverence perpetuates a simplistic view of military service, overlooking the intricate layers of its complexities, particularly those of armed forces and the democratic nations they serve. There is a real danger in blind celebration in so far that such narratives of heroism and sacrifice ultimately perpetuate militarism. Honoring veterans should foster a sense of unity and collective identity crucial in navigating the complexities of postmodern society. Yet honoring veterans also demands a critical examination of the societal structures that enable militarism and the heedless tribute of war. A veteran’s day should ultimately advance the recognition of those who have served and embody the shared values that bind us together. It should reflect our gratitude for the men and women who serve, but also serve as a rather subtle warning that war is a very real threat – and some have been called to fight in them. How can public recognition of veterans be improved to reflect a deeper understanding of their challenges during and after service? Spread the word and share this post! The Road Back: A bi-monthly LinkedIn series that explores the veteran's journey and sheds light on combat experience and life after war. Official VLOG and more coming soon! Are you thinking, "I've seen that image before"? If you've been following me since January, you have ... but today it's slightly different. The map shows the states where we haven't yet served anyone with Changing Focus: Moving From We to Me. In January, Michigan was among those states...but, we have an alum there now. This is where I'm hoping my 🤞who-luck🤞 works. It's a term coined by my friend and mentor, John C. Maxwell, that refers to the people you come across accidentally or because you got yourself to the right place OR because you asked someone the question, "Who do you know that I should know?" Today, that's what I'm doing...and, yes, if you're reading this, I'm asking YOU. WHO do you know who should participate in a cohort of Changing Focus: Moving From We to Me? It's for service members and military spouses, of all ranks from all services, who are transitioning to the civilian sector, AND veterans of any era who want to reset their transition...in the virtual arena. What should someone who participates in a cohort expect to do or get? They'll spend 24 hours over four days with us, 🍏 Discovering why change is so challenging and how to use their mind to overcome it, 🍏 Finding their purpose and create a vision plan for their future, and 🍏 Learning about living an intentional life, one filled with THEIR purpose. 🍏 They'll take communications and financial assessments to better understand their behaviors and habits, and 🍏 Receive individual resume and LinkedIn profile reviews. 🍏 Along the way, they'll play with Lego bricks and paint! 🥳 It's FREE to all participants. We'll send them a box with everything they'll need in it for their cohort except for a cup of water. Please tag the people I should meet in the comments, so they'll see this post and I can connect with them. #military #veterans #militarytransition #transitioningmilitary #militaryspouses #veteranshelpingveterans #zigszagsandpivots

#TBT Throwback Thursday Thoughts: 1. Find #opportunity & #networking when you are out 2. We don't do enough to support our #Veterans. ------- 1. Roy Y. Salisbury and I were taking a break from the office and working outside, where we almost always end up engaged in conversation with new people. In this case Martez Evans II overheard us talking business, and saw the #marines hat Roy was wearing, and introduced himself. as a Veteran of the US Army. We spent time discussing what we all do, and Martez' history, current pursuits, and future plans. You never know where these types of conversations can go, and props to Martez for introducing himself to us. Cold intros are not easy and take some guts. 2. Why do we wait for Veterans Day and Memorial Day to acknowledge our Veterans? And even then many of the corporate ads are bullshit, as a secret they would never share include a propensity to NOT hire Veterans. Another fact many hiring managers and recruiters would deny. At Stony Hill Advisors, Inc. we stand fast and proudly of our support for Veterans. 3. I miss beer and bourbon. Been dry since Christmas. Not even a taste.

"’Thank you for your service’—but what comes next? 🤔 For many transitioning veterans, these words, though well-intentioned, often fall short. Imagine serving your country with honor, only to struggle with finding your place in the civilian workforce. The reality is, too many veterans feel lost, undervalued, and overlooked in their job search. It's time to go beyond the words. Veterans don't just need gratitude; they need opportunities, support, and a community that recognizes their worth. Let's bridge the gap between service and civilian life by offering real solutions—because our heroes deserve more than just a ‘thank you.’ 💪🇺🇸 #Veterans #TransitioningVeterans #BeyondTheThankYou #VeteranSupport #JobSearch #HireAVet #Leadership #WarriorLDRSHIP"

Essential Insights for Veterans One recurring theme we hear, especially after wrapping up our VetOps monthly workshop, is the drastic shift veterans experience after leaving the military. In the military, everything is provided—housing, childcare, groceries—all within reach on base. One veteran from Nashville shared how he never had to leave the base for anything. When transitioning to civilian life, veterans face the new challenge of managing housing, bills, and more independently. This change is significant whether you're leaving the corporate world for entrepreneurship or transitioning from military to civilian careers. Understanding and preparing for these shifts is crucial for a successful transition. Are you a veteran seeking guidance in navigating this new landscape?
