My super-power is that I help hundreds of other people to save the world! I work a lot with charities - it’s part of my give-back to society to help others that are working for causes that I truly believe in. I can’t work in all of them myself and I made a vow over Christmas last year that as they use their talents for good, I could use my talents to support them. So in what ways do I help them help the world? Charities are suffering now more than ever. Grants are fewer and not given to all. Grants are also time consuming to bid for, knowing that there’s fierce competition for the pot. So, Events Simplified does what it does best - plans events and finds the perfect venue for said events but for charities, not-for-profit organisations and CICs, we do it free of charge. Sure, every agency offers free venue finding because we get paid out of each venue’s marketing budget - we’re part of their marketing plan so are already a costed-for overhead whether you use us if not! But I think we may be unique as an agency offering free event planning…and what even is that bit? Its the really (really) time consuming bit. It’s planning the project, sorting out a logistics plan that ensures each event runs without a hitch. It’s the sourcing of all the moving parts that make an event pop! I take the “simplified” in our name very seriously. To super-simplify, part of my offer is that we will contract with all those moving parts so you get one contract, one invoice, one point of contact to simplify your admin, save you time and reduce your nervous headache! How do we do this so you retain control? We become your events team. If you already have an events team - or more likely in a charity, a fundraising manager - then we work directly with them. We do all the work, you make all the decisions. And all that free (it’s usually a well-paid project managing role!) So do you know fundraising managers that are struggling for time? We had 3 weeks to plan a charity event from scratch. We were not event planners. We did not have a fancy budget. We did not live in the same country. We were inexperienced and young. Still made things happen tho. So here's how we did it ↓ (1) Remove unnecessary complexity We were aware of our limited resources, so it was all about simplifying the situation. We focused on what we had 100% control over which was the structure of the event itself. (2) Tap into our network and sell This is where blind confidence comes in. We needed a venue, a dj, and volunteers. So here we went contacting a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend.... and sell the idea transparently. "Hey we can't pay you much but we can promote your shop since we know the people attending fit your target audience, oh and it's for charity." (3) Promote and tell the story So here's the funny thing. We were promoting the event without a final venue. Why? Because we needed some leverage to get a cheaper venue, and the amount of attendees was a great selling point. Maybe not the smartest move in hindsight but it worked. (Our rationale was: "worst case we do at a public park, since it was early september). For promotion we heavenly relied on Word of Mouth, and social media. 3 weeks later we had an event, sold 60 tickets, raised 1000 Euros. Why did we do it? It's always been a dream of ours to give back. We've been running out of excuses not to. So it was all about setting a deadline with healthy pressure, and just go. You want it.
