❗12 million children in England. ❗400,000 within the social care system. ❗270,000 waiting for mental health support. ❗84,000 in care 🔴 The most common mental health issue referred? Anxiety—the fight-or-flight response to perceived danger. 🔵 In just three years, the likelihood of a child facing mental health challenges has risen by 50%. ⚫ Shockingly, 75% of young people have had to wait so long for mental health referrals that their symptoms worsened, or they never received help at all. Trauma doesn’t just disappear—it lingers and manifests in alarming ways. 🔴 Nearly 50% of those under 21 in the criminal justice system have been in care, and care leavers make up 50% of the adult homeless population. These statistics aren't just numbers. They represent a cycle of trauma that continues unless we shift our approach. 💡 Imagine if schools, social care, and parenting were all trauma-informed. 💡 Instead of waiting for crises to unfold, we’d be working toward prevention. 💡 Teaching children to understand and accept their emotions in safe, unconditional environments could drastically reduce the need for mental health referrals. 💡 Fewer children would be in the care system, and those who are would receive the support they truly need. 💡 This could prevent their trajectory toward the criminal justice system or homelessness. Breaking this cycle starts with understanding. We can create a future where healing is prioritised, and where mental health challenges are met with compassion, not judgment or stigma. Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are potentially traumatic events during childhood, such as abuse, neglect, and household dysfunction, that can lead to long-term physical, mental, and behavioral issues. These experiences increase the risk of chronic diseases, mental health disorders, cognitive impairments, and difficulties in forming healthy relationships. Addressing ACEs involves early intervention, trauma-informed care, creating supportive environments, providing parental support, implementing community programs, raising awareness, and advocating for policies that promote child welfare and reduce the occurrence of ACEs.

This course/certification is still to the day of the best trainings I have ever completed. As an athletic trainer it is VITAL for tools of better listening and ways to help athletes. As a BDR it is JUST as vital for really hearing and understanding healthcare organizations needs/pain points. September was first declared as National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month in 2008. Since then, September has been a time to acknowledge those affected by suicide, raise awareness, and connect individuals with suicidal ideation to treatment services. According to the CDC, each year more than 41,000 individuals die by suicide, leaving behind friends and family members to navigate the tragedy of their loss. Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death among adults in the U.S. and the 2nd leading cause of death among people aged 10-24 and these rates are increasing. September is National Recovery Month💜 This month is all about raising awareness of substance misuse and mental health recovery, it serves as a time to celebrate the successes of the people who have navigated the challenges of substance misuse or mental health. We recognise the dedication of our staff, families, and communities who support people through their recovery. It fosters a sense of hope, reduces stigma, and demonstrates that recovery is possible, emphasising the importance of treatment and mental health services🙌 🎯We are proud to say 70% of our staff have lived experience themselves. We value those personal experiences and recognise that people's strengths are built upon them. Lived experience is having a direct and plausible experience of the challenges that our learners face within their communities such as drugs and alcohol, mental health, debt, homelessness, domestic abuse, trauma, and long-term unemployment. Having a relative knowledge of these situations gives people a unique set of skills and insight as well as an understanding of the social barriers and pitfalls which create the gaps in our services.
