Call for sponsors to help a Camden School Project! Think & Do and Camden Clean Air Initiative are working with the Camden Climate Alliance to host the second Green Dragons Den event on Thursday 21st March. We're looking for organisations to sponsor grants of £100, £300 or £500 which will be given directly to a primary school to complete the projects they pitch on the day. Projects can range from organising clothes and uniform swaps to rewilding a patch of the school grounds or launching a behaviour change campaign to reduce single use plastic in the school. Sponsors of grants will be linked with the school directly to follow the project and build a long lasting relationship for future collaborations and partnerships. If you are interested in learning more and sponsoring a school, please get in touch with Emily (emily@thinkanddocamden.org.uk) #Camden #Schools #CamdenSTEAM #Primaryschools

1. Limited funding, this can greatly hinder ability to implement most of our projects and campaigns effectively, so majorly we try to for seek grants, corporate sponsorships, individual donations, and also crowd funding. Building a strong relationship with the communities and showcasing the impact of our work has also attracted more help. 2. Limited Resources, in terms of personell, , but collaborating with organizations, schools , the different government departments, and recruitment of volunteers has strengthened our capabilities as an organization 3. Climate Change and Environmental Degradation, addressing the causes which in most cases has been the source of income for most of the people has been really tough, but we try our best to advocate for environmental communities through community barazas, policy reforms, and majorly promoting sustainable practices,(grassroot activism) 4. Long- term sustainability, establishing achievable goals, and adapting strategies have been really essential.

Promoting sustainability in historic buildings presents unique challenges, but also opportunities for governments to take action in raising awareness and providing support. Historic buildings are often energy inefficient due to their age, materials, and construction techniques. At the same time, preservation is key to maintaining cultural heritage. Governments can play a pivotal role in this effort through various strategies. While a lot is yet to be done. It was insightful to listen to Geoffrey Barraclough at an historic building built in 1831, The British Academy and how that is being put to modern use. The government is now offering grants of up to £10,000 to support energy efficiency upgrades and retrofits for historic buildings. Charities and social enterprises can apply for up to £20,000! These grants aim to preserve heritage while enhancing sustainability. Take advantage of this opportunity to make your property more energy efficient without compromising its historic value. Don't miss out on the chance to save on costs and reduce your environmental footprint! If you are working with a historic building and you wish to monetise it out hey access to grants, reach out. #Sustainability #Netzero #Historic buildingenergy

There are 100 reasons to spend time in nature. 🌿 From getting creative inspiration, to channeling your inner hunter-gatherer. 🦣 I get my fix from running through the parks of North London, seeing how the seasons change and letting my mind float along the way. 🧠 Today Hubbub is announcing 100 more: the winners of The Nature Hubs Fund. We’ve just funded 100 community nature projects across the country with grants of up to £6k thanks to the Starbucks 5p Cup Charge. All 100 #NatureHubs are unique. Things like: • Greening a car park at the aquarium in Hull 🐡 • A community garden on a housing estate in Sheffield 🧑🌾 • Woodland restoration (with a creative writing twist) in Worcester 📝 All will bring nature closer to people and people closer to nature. 🔄 Our polling shows that 37% of people in the UK spend less than an hour a week in nature. We're celebrating 100 more reasons to do so with this video. (Spot two of my kids in it at the start!) 🧒 If you want to talk about how to fund and support community-led green space, do drop me a line 📧 ++ P.S. I'm CEO of environmental charity Hubbub. I’ve loved helping Hubbub launch their Nature Hubs fund and winners and seeing some of the amazing projects up and running all over the country. On a personal note, community gardening is a topic very close to my heart. Not only am I part of the allotment-holding community, I also volunteer in a primary school, teaching kids how to grow food and look after nature. Every week I witness the pure joy these children feel from seeing their seeds germinate, observing insects and even sampling elderflower cordial from the elderflowers they’ve picked. We need to create a foundation for children to protect and work with nature in the future and I truly believe school and community gardening can play a big role in this. Academic research shows how access to gardens at school can help promote pro-conservation behaviour among pupils. So why is it not more of a priority considering the huge environmental challenges we’re facing? Well there’s no money. Most teachers aren’t trained in this area and just don’t have the capacity. Parent volunteers are scarce as they too are under pressure to work all hours and many don’t have the basic gardening skills needed. I don’t know what the answer is but I can’t help but feel there are solutions out there (local retired garden enthusiasts working with schools?). They just need resource and funding. I do hope the new government takes action on this… but I’m not holding my breath. In the meantime, it’s brilliant to see companies like Starbucks fund community gardening projects and help more people access green space and get closer to nature. Wouldn’t it be great for more of the private sector to help boost school gardening too?

We’re on a mission to become a net zero business, and as a large law firm we think it’s also important for us to support charities that seek to make a difference to our shared environment. That’s why our grant-making body, The Shoosmiths Foundation, has awarded nearly £100k to two net zero-focused UK charities. So, who are they? The first is Energy Sparks, a charity which helps schools monitor and reduce their carbon emissions through its inventive energy management tool. Our funds will enable its work to be expanded to an additional 45 primary, secondary and special schools in England, highlighting how to look after the environment in which we all live. The second is a bit more legal - The Chancery Lane Project. Our donation will enable this charity to create a vocational e-learning training course on climate contracting for business professionals and lawyers. https://lnkd.in/eQk4TuZe We’ll keep you updated with progress on these projects in our annual ESG Reports. #NetZero #CollectiveClever #ForWhatMatters

The next round of Pots of Possibility funding opens on 2nd September 2024 and is offering grants of between £5,000 and £10,000 to community groups, charities, social enterprises and other not-for-profit organisations❗️ The fund supports ideas for developing a zero-waste, circular and regenerative local economy in North Lancashire. It is part of Closing Loops, a five-year £1.5 million project funded by The National Lottery Community Fund to support community-led action and local initiatives. Grant application ideas can fit into any of the four Closing Loops themes: 1. Reusing, repurposing and repairing materials currently going to waste (e.g. textiles, electronics, packaging, surplus food, etc) 2. Sharing resources (e.g. tools, materials, skills, etc) or repurposing unused space for community benefit 3. Inspiring people to use and buy things more sustainably and to produce less waste 4. Growing, cooking and eating food that’s local, seasonal and sustainably produced This year particularly welcomes applications around the theme of REPAIR (to extend the life of consumer goods, clothing, tools, etc). They're also interested in ideas connected to affordable community spaces (for startups, community groups, regenerative enterprises, etc); community-led housing; and business food waste composting.
