Fantastic list—each of these titles offers something unique for driving L&D innovation! I especially appreciate how diverse the recommendations are, from hybrid work strategies to gamification and learning ecosystems. It’s a great reminder that effective L&D requires pulling insights from multiple domains. One book I’d add is “Think Again” by Adam Grant. While not exclusively L&D-focused, it’s a masterclass in fostering a culture of rethinking and continuous learning—essential for any organization navigating rapid change. 🔥 Hot take: If you want your learning programs to be more impactful, you have to stop talking like an instructional designer. As learning experts, we often find ourselves immersed in a world of frameworks, learning objectives, and pedagogical strategies. While this expertise is invaluable, it can also be the difference between delivering content and delivering impact. If you're looking to elevate your game, here are a few tips and tricks that you can put into practice immediately. ⏱️Simplify Your Language. Ditch the jargon! Use clear, concise language that resonates with your audience. Time is valuable. Get to the point quickly and articulate your ideas succinctly to maintain attention and interest. (Confession: This one is NOT my strength.) 🎯Focus on Impact. Rather than detailing processes, emphasize outcomes and impact that directly benefit the person you're working with. 📈Elevate Your Data Game. Leverage data storytelling and data visualization to show, not just tell the impact you can, will, and did have. 💪Speak with Confidence. Speak with conviction. What started out as a simple request: "Hey, do you think you could make our #training story-based?" many years ago, has developed into a book, a six-week cohort and a full-fledged certification program. 🏁 Since the book was published in 2020, thousands of IDs have started applying Instructional #Story Design to create humanized learning experiences. 🏁 The first cohort launched last month. It's thrilling to see seasoned and new-to-instructional design professionals growing in their skills to consult, unearth #stories in stakeholder interviews, design powerful stories and training that respects learners' abilities to observe, critically think and solve problems. 🏁 This year, so far, over a dozen IDs will become certified Instructional Story Designers. One-on-one mentorship with me to fully produce a story-based course for work or their portfolio. Wherever you are in your quest to #humanize training, I want to encourage you...keep going! The workplace needs more people devoted to speaking the language of people. He who tells stories, wins hearts. 🧡

It's all about FUN(ctions)! That’s what we do at The Center for Implementation. We have fun while also having freedom to work independently, with full trust in each other’s expertise. And it’s always our teamwork that brings these projects to life. I’ve had the incredible opportunity to lead the design of TCI’s 6th online course, Hidden Curriculum: Igniting Change From the Middle. Every course we create brings new insights, challenges, and growth — and this one is no different. While the entire team worked together to bring this course to life, I had the privilege of working closely with Carrie Costello as we designed a new approach to building online courses — one that focused on storytelling to make the content more engaging and relatable. And alongside me was Sarah MacPhee who supported the development of all images, video editing, and resource formatting. Our goal was clear: To create a user-centered and engaging learning experience. From the development of new activities and resources to the production of videos, we made sure every element was focused on engaging learners and helping them apply the 5 functions that drive sustainable change: understand, connect, inspire, enable, and transform. Here’s a key takeaway from working on this project over the last 10 months: While I don’t yet work in supporting implementation on the ground, the skills taught in this course — like understanding people’s perspectives, inspiring action, and enabling growth — have changed how I approach my work and interactions with others. This project has been a true team effort, and that’s one of the things I love most about working at TCI. We are all passionate about helping people drive change in ways that are innovative, equitable, sustainable ー and FUN. I always test, refine, and evolve my designs to ensure they deliver maximum impact.
