Think a planet without #fastfashion is impossible to imagine? Try these: The simplest ones: 🎀 check the tag on your existing clothes, to make sure you always wash them in the right way and can keep them as long as possible. 🎀 borrow from your friends and family. You may not need that item of clothing more than just once or twice in your lifetime, is it really worthwhile buying it? And as my dearest Lavinia Anselmi always says when she borrows my mountain clothes “I’ll carry a piece of you with me on top of that mountain!” 💙 🎀 the extra-level after borrowing: if that works for you size-wise, you can non-chalantly ask your parent or sibling to hand over to you some of their clothes, forever 😉 🎀 buy second-hand. You’ll find unique items, get your creativity flowing, and find good deals! …And by the way, all of the above can easily be done between men’s & women’s clothing, as I’m currently typing while wearing a sweater my brother wore for years before giving it to me more than 10 years ago (on top of a t-shirt my mother used to own and gave me last year). The admittedly less immediate actions you can take to survive without fast fashion - because it requires informing oneself, which I know takes time: ✅ check where the item was made ✅ check the website of the brand, and try to look for their #sustainabilityreport ✅ identify #sustainablefashion shops and brands around you and support them. What does « sustainable » mean? You can think: 🌱reused 🌱repurposed 🌱local 🌱materials that have less impact on nature & oceans

France is leading the charge against the harmful effects of fast fashion on people, communities, and our planet. Fast fashion not only stifles creativity and reduces incomes for small suppliers and makers but also prevents them from selling their products at fair prices. This industry giant's cheap prices are impossible to compete with, leaving makers, suppliers, and textile farmers struggling to make ends meet. Meanwhile, the environment suffers from overproduction, cheap materials, and pollution, all in the name of profit. It's time to shift towards creating beautifully designed garments with natural textiles, thoughtful design, and limited production to ensure a healthier future for everyone involved.

Vestiaire Collective Great but what about educating people, this 💥 Penalties of up to €10 for fast fashion clothing 🚫 Banning ultra fast fashion advertising is a way to answer but maybe not the right one. To start with what the definition of fast fashion, looks a bit blurry. The issue is on the impact on environment? In that case all products made outside EU would not be good. Is it because the prices are very low? Ok but think of those who can afford to spent more. Is it because the competition is not fair, in this case all products from lower costs countries than Europe needs to be considered. Again not the proper answer to me to a real issue, an answer for sure, but bear in mind there are people buying, therefore there must be a reason! I would much preferred TV add saying "do you know that this shirt @2 Euros is actually done this way, impacting this & this , cross the world to get to you.... Educating people is the way forward not penalties, if you add 10€ to the 2€ shirt, still a good deal. Don't get me wrong I fully support the idea that there's an issue to sort out. But would like to even more thinking out of the box, rethink some model, rather than just focusing on "fast fashion". What about buy less, buy more expensive but more sustainable, product that would last longer. Why not buy local, trust they are people making shoes in France, clothes (Jean 1083), wellies (Aigle), jumper (Saint James)... My 2cts, to a fascinating debate Wish you all a great day #retail #madeinfrance #buylocal #sustainability Yemi Lawal I am sure you have insights on the matter Sabrina Faubel

France is taking the lead in penalising the impact fast fashion has on people, communities and our environment. Fast fashion dehumanises our industry and paralyses creativity for small suppliers, makers and creatives by reducing their incomes and stopping their Businesses thriving to sell and make products at The True Cost garments should be sold at. Small brands can not compete and can not share their proctor with their smaller industry supply chains. No one can compete with fast fashion prices. Someone is paying the price along the supply chains for these unrealistic prices when makers, suppliers, textile farmers and many others in our industry are highly skilled and deserve better wages, safe places to work and know their work is making a better and healthier environment for our future generations. Fast fashion creates enormous issues with over production, cheap quality textiles often made from synthetics and not able to last or be recycled or compostable, unsafe working conditions for all levels of the supply chain, low labour incomes and environmental pollution only to make profits for the top companies. Making beautifully designed garments with thoughtful design principles and natural textiles and not over produced in 100,000s of units is the way we need to go to create a healthy climate and health for people working in our industry.
