For the month of July, our Who I Am Foundation volunteers in #Albuquerque are hosting our 11th Annual Back-to-School Supply Drive to help children in need begin the school year with all of the tools they need for academic success. With so many uncertainties about how children will return to school and what the classroom will look like, they need your help more than ever. Families with children in K-12 spent a projected $519 per child on back-to-school needs last year. For families in low-income neighborhoods, the costs are simply not realistic. Donating new school supplies to children in disadvantaged communities will make an impact on their ability to begin the school year school-ready. What Drives Giving: The Heart or Brain: Major Gifts, Planned Gifts & Donor Retention was presented at the 2023 Nonprofit Academy,St Mary's PA. and focuses on the power the heart plays in Major Gifts and Planned Giving through conducted research and the personal experiences of Gary L. Bukowski MA,CFRE VP for Advancement, in his fundraising effort to make a difference in Higher Education, with Intellectually Challenged Individuals and children with behavioral challenges. Six Major & Planned Giving case studies are reviewed. Research is used from the recent book, The Embodied Mind by Thomas R. Verny, M.D. and recent fundraising research. Plus, the author has provided a plethora of resources for the fundraising professional to help them in developing a major gift and planned giving program or enhance their existing and ongoing efforts. Today, I need your help. As many of you know, I chair the board of directors of BeWell in School, a local nonprofit that empowers schools with self-regulation through movement, mindfulness, and breathing. Our work revolutionizes school wellness and happiness while decreasing disciplinary interventions and improving scholastic outcomes. It is literally life-changing work. This year our board made a major pivot. We saw our school partners struggling with funding due to policy changes post-COVID. Rather than adding expense to the already constrained budgets of underfunded public schools, we committed to covering as many of their BeWell programming costs as we could jointly afford. Our partners still invest heavily through paying teacher salaries, but our team now works to cover other costs by partnering with philanthropic individuals and groups who want to see our schools improve. We have an aggressive goal to raise $100,000 by the end of 2024. Today, I'm asking for your help in meeting this goal.
