This #Manningfest video from Omaha Productions is brilliant and a reminder of the shared experience that can be found between #sports and #theater. A little story should you care to keep reading: A few months ago I found myself in conversation with a college football player whose career had just come to an end due to injury and was trying to figure out what to do now that his dreams had been 'ruined.' I suggested to him it was a new beginning, not an ending - that perhaps he could find a way to funnel that passion into something else yet still in the same field. I related it to my experience with theater and my early pivot away from acting to administration, and the interesting journey I've had since. He was skeptical of the comparison at first due to preconceived notions about theater until I said, "Have you ever actually been in a theater?" He admitted he had not, and conceded the point I was making of staying open-minded. Within a relatively short amount of time, he got a summer job as a trainer at a football camp and is now well on his way to a career in coaching and training. He loves it, and it makes me so happy to see him happy, and we stay in touch regularly. Like a sports game, theater gets so much of its magic and energy from the power of the audience/fans...and like an athlete, actors rely heavily on their bodies to perform, and are constantly in training mode. If we want to go real deep, both are capable of bring about a 'cathartic experience.' Theater tends to remain in a more insular bubble compared to sports - which is a whole other conversation - but which is why I adore this video and its appeal to the masses. It is a strong reminder of how we can find commonality and opportunity if we just remain observant and willing to keep an open mind. https://lnkd.in/eCTcjQZU #Theatre #Football #Opportunity #OpenMind #LiveEntertainment #Career
