Foresight Raises €300 Million for Article 9 Energy Transition Infrastructure Fund Real assets-focused investment manager Foresight Group announced that it has raised €300 million in commitments at the first close of its energy transition fund, Foresight Energy Infrastructure Partners II. Focused on long-term value creation, FEIP II is classified as an Article 9 fund under the EU’s SFDR regulation, and aims to invest in strategic energy assets that eliminate bottlenecks to the energy transition. Thank you Solarplaza for having me at the European Asset Management Summit. I had the privilege of presenting some of my thoughts and research on Solar and Europe's role in the Net-Zero transition. As I'm looking at my next steps in the industry, I wanted to look at three big questions related to solar PV deployment: ❓ Should we: If we look into the future at 2050, is a large scale deployment of solar the best and most cost effective strategy to achieve our decarbonization goals? (Yes) ❓ Can we: As we look down the path of an aggressive solar deployment, do we run into physical limits to this growth? Land, materials, manufacturing? (No, but some things to keep an eye on) ❓ How will we: What steps do we need to take to get down this path. (Sector coupling will be key) I really enjoyed the research process to put this together, and have included my sources in the presentation slides (link in comments). Special thanks to Geoffrey Hoy and BCG Henderson Institute Switch GT team for providing data and analysis for material consumption forecasting. Also, thank you to Marta Victoria and Christian Breyer for helping to orient me in the energy system modelling space, and thanks to Heather Mirletz for help using the National Renewable Energy Laboratory PV-ICE code. I came out of this research with what I'd call "daunted enthusiasm". We are well on the way into the energy transition, and solar PV will play a big role in that story. And, there is a huge amount of work do to and challenges ahead as we transition our technology and business plans into a fully sector-coupled energy future. Lots to do! And, if you're working on interesting projects in PV or the net-zero transition, I'd love to have a chat as I continue to explore how I can best help to accelerate the path to net-zero.

The infrastructure investing space has expanded, including areas like renewable energy and the digitalizing global economy. The money needed for new data centers and power sources, along with building and maintaining traditional infrastructure, adds up to an estimated $15 trillion global investment gap, creating new opportunities for investors across public and private markets.

Good news at the end of the week for the financing of our green transformation!  🌱 With a total volume of AUD 1 billion, which is equivalent to around EUR 616 million, EnBW yesterday successfully issued two green bonds on the Australian capital market for the first time. I am delighted that our inaugural issue in this region has been so successful, especially in view of the high financing requirements for implementing the #energytransition. The successful transaction shows that Australian and Asian investors, too, reward our integrated portfolio approach along the entire energy value chain. We are currently in the process of building the carbon-free energy infrastructure of the future. Our strategy is clearly focused on #decarbonisation. This also applies to our investments and their financing. The proceeds from the bonds will be used to finance the green transformation of our portfolio. We are making good progress here: we currently have around 1.5 GW of renewable energies under construction, not to mention the accompanying grid expansion. The inaugural AUD 1 billion dual tranche bond issuance was supported by high-quality regional and international institutional investors.
